I was thinking of booking a short break there sometime next year before db3 is born, but reading through the info on the site I can't understand the whole eating thing! lol

it says that children have tea in their own dining room. but that over 8's can dine with parents in the restaurant (on their best behaviour).
so, if my 1yr old and 4yr old have to eat tea earlier, by themselves, what the hell am I supposed to do with them while dp and I have dinner in the evening????
it seems absurd. we always eat together, and while I am sure they offer some kind of listening service I am not happy doing that.

are they accomodating on this? or not?

When I last went there the children under 7 ate at children's tea and the adults had their meal later in the restaurant. You could either have the baby listening service, book a babysitter for your room (if available) or put your children in the evening club. The baby listening service is continually linked to your room so reasonably safe. However I think I read somewhere that you are now given a baby monitor to take to your table so you can hear sounds from the room as you would at home.

I think in the last year or so they have added another option where you can eat with your young children in the downstairs part of the restaurant. So I think you would have the option of eating with your children.
I would phone them and ask.

If you can go out of the main season and get a free child place I think it would be worth trying. It is ridiculously expensive once your children grow older and you have to go in school holiday time.

We went in September (off peak) and had a great time and we'll be back again next year. The food has improved we have been told and it ranged from fantastic to pretty good and I love my food.

You can eat with young children downstairs but I think thats only from 6.30/7pm which seems quite late for a 1 year old -not sure give them a ring. You can also eat in your room. DD loved eating surrounded by other kids.

We did use the listening service as DD was still in her cot and a very good sleeper, no you can't hear your babies screams (that would be very annoying to hear other babies to be honest while having dinner) you are give a device which vibrates if your baby wakes.

With a 4 year old I would hire a baby sitter every night or at least some nights as not that expensive compared to the overall cost. I wanted to have dinner in peace with DH and not cooked by me.

I think my DD was the only one wearing Boden by the way - most seemed to be M&S and Next!

ahh well good to get some other opinions!

I still wouldn't use a listening service. ds2 wakes a LOT, so I'd be forever up and down anyway, and he goes from awake to full blown screaming in a few seconds lol, which will mean ds1 awake too.

but it is nice to know that you can dine with kids, or in your room. so it's def back on my list

We decided not to go as DD was only 3 months old and BF and I was not happy to leave her out of my sight although was happy to use baby listening for my then 3 year old. We went to sandbanks instead and she slept very nicely in her buggy next to us whilst we had dinner.
