It really depends how much you want to spend. There are a couple of Travelodges that are reasonably central.

if you want the aquarium and the eye, then the premier travel inn at county hall would be very handy.

or if you are not credit crunched, marriott county hall is part of the smae complex, but nicer .

just noticed that you said you will be taking the car. lots of central london hotels don;t have parking. those that do charge a small fortune for it, and don't always mention this upfront on the websites. worth checking with wherever you choose.

We stayed at the County Hall Premier Inn and it was fine - was a Travelodge then, so pretty basic but it's been tarted up a bit. About 15 seconds to get to the eye and the Aquarium, and nice restaurants nearby. And teh South Bank is great for kids - Trafalgar Square etc easily walkable.

I wouldn't take the car into central London - at least park it in a carpark outside the congestion charge zone and train/tube in from there.
