Toddler-friendly self-catering in East Anglia for Christmas

We are thinking of going away around Christmas for a few days or a week, would love to rent a cottage or similar in Norfolk or Suffolk. Ideally would be somewhere that will specifically cater for toddlers (DS will be 22mo) ie stair gates, toys etc available. Also within walking distance of local shops/pub and preferably within easy drive of a few indoorsy things to do.

Any recommendations welcome...

mumsnetter Beetroot owns This - do a search on her name and contact her to ask her about it.

megbusset - not sure if you would consider a hotel yet there is a really good one in suffolk which is good with childcare. if you are considering a hotel let me know and i can give you a link to it

we stayed at The Hideaway, Cley-next-the-Sea a couple of years ago. cley is a charming place and the north norfolk coast is generally gorgeous. there are indoors things to do not far away. i thought this place was very good value for the area. it doesn't have swanky period interiors charm, if that's essential for you, but is very comfortable and well equipped. i can't remember if they have stairgates - but the family who owns the cottage have 5 children so may be able to provide some if you would like them.

hth and good luck.

Hi, We had a fantastic new year at Wells Next the Sea at Wagtails bungalow. Lovely, warm and cosy with lots of christmas decorations. www.wagtails-wellsnorfolk.co.uk. Lots of lovely toys including a wendy house in the garden, tricyles etc. Within a few minutes level walk of all the pubs, restaurants, shops of Wells, the harbour and the sea. Again, like Cley, a great base for exploring the area.
Good luck with your search.

Thanks for all your responses -- will have a look through those cottages.

I think ideally we would have one that's south of Norwich rather than on the north Norfolk coast because my dad lives in Suffolk (and MIL in Norwich) so would be good to be able to get to both easily for a quick visit.

Happysoandso -- I think we'd prefer a cottage to a hotel as it's nice to be able to relax in the living room while DS is in bed
