Devon Cliffs Haven - what is there to do "off site"?

Going there in a couple of weeks with the ILs

MIL has said she hopes we can spend most days on the site but DH and I would rather spend most days off site doing other things (doesn't bode well does it?! ). What is there to do around there? We like steam trains if there are any of them nearby and museums and stuff. DSs are 6,4 and 17m

TIA

There is a park right at the entrance which is much better than it sounds !Motor museum, animals (you can take goats for walks !)soft play, outside parks etc, we had a wet day and spent a really nice day there. The pool on site is great, inside and outside pools, water slides etc thats well worth a visit.
We went to crealys which was a theme park and very good, also a donkey sanctuary, Im pretty sure that was free. Theres a pretty seaside village called Beer ( not sure of spelling ) with a park on top of the cliffs with a train ride which my ds enjoyed.
Have a great time !

Think the nearest steam trains are near Taunton. There is a tram at Seaton and a land train. Exeter has a museum but its being renovated. Do you like cathedrals? Take the children down the underground passages www.exeter.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=2914 or to walk the old walls or take a boat on the river.

Diggerland isn't far, or Crealy and World of Country Life is on the doorstep. They might enjoy the rides at Trago Mills (shopping site near Newton abbot) or Paignton Zoo is a full day out.

There are steam trains at Paignton, going down the Dart estuary to Kingswear, where you can get a ferry to Dartmouth, which is beautiful & has a castle, and between Totnes (which also has a castle) & Buckfastleigh (which has an otter sanctuary & butterfly farm)
House of Marbles,at Bovey Tracey (near Trago Millsthat tatt mentioned) has fantastic marble runs, including one enormous one that uses pool balls.

I'm going to the house of marbles next time I'm in the area!

The railway I was thinking of is the West Somerset Express. www.west-somerset-railway.co.uk/
