I need your advice about a discounted holiday I have just had a call about...

A few days ago someone called for the previous owners of the house (even though we have been here for 2 yrs) and when I said they hadn't lived here for a while, they asked me to answer a few questions for a survey. Normally I just say no, but for some reason I did answer them.

Now this evening I have had a call saying we have been selected for a discounted holiday to somewhere like Spain or Portugal. £49 a head, all flights and accomodation included. Me being me asked what the catch was and she said the only thing we would need to do is go to a talk in Exeter (which wouldn't be a problem as we have family in Somerset)

All sounds great, but I still think there must be a catch in there somewhere. She reckons they offer these discounted holidays as part of their advertising.

So, has anyone else done this? Is it a big con? Kind of need to know before talking to DH about it as he is way more cynical than me. But if it isn't a con, then it sounds wonderful!

Sounds like one of them timeshare things where they lock you in for hours grinding you down until you sign on the bottom line scenario.

i used to work for these people for a short time while i was at uni. it was grand vacation comapny for a while, then GVC, then sunterra, now something else.

sorry it won't only be £49 and it is unlikely it would be at your convenience either. You would have to attend a lengthy presentation and be given hard sell to sign up to a "holiday club" scheme or time share before you can even claim.

See this is exactly what I thought and did ask her before she started babbling whether it was time share thing and she said no. I think I will go with my gut instinct and not bother with it. DH is not one to be ground down and forced to sign something he doesn;t want anyway

Its probably not a time share but a "holiday club", which is even worse, because at least you have some legal protection with time shares, but holiday clubs (which are very similar), you get no protection.

Have had calls like this myself and did some research at the time on the web. The £49 per head will bump up as I bet you will have to pay for fuel, taxes and other hidden costs.

I went to one of these presentations, it was a complete waste of time and although we still got a holiday voucher it wasn't made easy to use and we felt like we barely escaped with our wallets intact and felt like we had been arguing all day.
