How do you go on holiday with a 6 week old baby and where?

We have a six week old baby and DH would like us to go away for the weekend as his birthday present.

How does that work with small children? What do you do about evening meals? What if you need to steralise something? What kind of places do you stay in?

Also, any recomendations for places to stay wtihing about 100 miles of south london, gratefully recived.

there is lots out there for families - lot's of hotels now have baby listening services or monitors for you to listen to your baby while dining. Here are are few websites for ideas

6 weeks old is fine - easier than toddlers especially if you are breastfeeding. You could go more or less anywhere and do anything I reckon. I used to take an old ice cream tub with a good lid and some Milton to sterilse bottles. You can use kettle in your hotel room to make up bottles if necesary

So do you use listening services, or take the baby to the dinning room or what?

I would be pretty worried about leaving him on a monitor if we were in a hotel, but can you take them to dinner with you?

Pop him in a pram beside the table and he can sleep and feed as he wants while you sit and chat!

Ask for a table in a corner so you cna put pram to the side, or even outsoide in this weather. You can buy bags for cold water sterlising with pre measured tablets , to hang over bath or shower taps.

Take baby with you, my DD (8 weeks) goes out for dinner with us 2 or 3 times a week and has done since she was a few weeks old. Am sure he'll be fine in pushchair

2point4kids, that would be what we would have to do, just need a hotel that is happy with that!

You can stay anywhere with a baby of that age. Just take cold water sterilising stuff and a flask.

take advantage of being able to go anywhere you like

not sure i understand the sterilising thing. sterilise what you will need fo rthe day in teh mornings, or if you are bf obv, you won't need to. Take your LO in the carseat if you are eating out. s/he will sleep by you and be near you if s/he needs you.

We took DS to Broadstairs for 3 days when he was 2 and a half weeks old, and Greece when he was 9 weeks. He slept in the carry-cot attachment of his pram, and when we went out to eat we took him in his little car seat and put it in the corner by the table. (or in his buggy in Greece he slept...but otherwise I fed or cuddled him at the table. We had him in a sling for going out walking (Greece) or pottering round the town. We had a balcony overlooking the sea so sat and had glass of woine in our room rather than stay out late...but I was craving early nights, anyway!
I was breastfeeding exclusively so it was all extremely easy.

Much easier than when they are older!

If you need to sterilise, find somewhere that has a microwave and take one of those microwave sterilisers? Lots of holiday cottage companies do weekend, or 3 and 4 day breaks out of the school hols. Try LymeBayHolidays.co.uk for the Dorset region - Lyme Regis would be a lovely place to go with a baby - or what about Whitstable (the Continental Hotel?) Try Cottages4You.

Hi we took our DS away with us when he was 8 weeks old and went to a von essen hotel (Fowey Hall Cornwall) which was great - and booked a babysitter which he thought was a real novelty...my husband made me do it as he thought I needed a bit of a break...all was fine - book the larger garden rooms as they are much nicer..they provide sterilisers or will wash sterilise bottles for you...and have nappy changing facilities etc...Make the most of it at this age...
