Gastropub type place near or in MUSWELL HILL - like Victoria Stakes but not there

Hi
I want to go to a gastropub type place near to N10 but not Victoria Stakes as we've been there a few times recently and although I think it's fab the menu is quite short so I want a change!

Any suggestions?!?

The Flask in Highgate is quite popular.

The Maid of Muswell (Alexander Park Road) does nice food too - really good chocolate pudding.

Will have a look at their websites - thanks Digital for the ideas.
Which has the 'poshest' food as dh is very fussy!

we go to st johns in archway, looks a bit dodgy at the front but has a lovely dining room with a big fire at the back. they dont do kids meals but dd just has the home made crusty bread. have to book for sunday lunch as gets very busy.lots better than vic stakes imo.

Thanks guys - will keep these in mind.
I've booked the Bald Faced Stag in East Finchley - used to be really rough but looks to have changed a lot. I remember my old landlord when I lived round there saying not to set foot in the place as it was so dodgy....hope it has indeed changed lol!

Please report back - thats just down the road from me and I've never ventured in!

Flask in Highgate is lovely in a bangers and mash kind of way.

Oh, and Spaniards has smartened up its menu recently, altho service is still quite random

Will do Filly!
Have found Vic Stakes fab recently and that isn't so far from you.

Filly - it was pretty good. Service was shaky but just about acceptable. Really nice inside, lively atmosphere.

The food was at the upper end of what I expect round here - not Gordon Ramsay or whatever but very good. Pretty similar standard to Vic Stakes. I think the latter still just wins for me on food quality and inventiveness of menu but Bald Faced Stag has a much better atmosphere.

I love the Vicky Stakes! Their steak is amazing! St John's is lovely!

Which St Johns? The one in Clerkenwell or is there another one nearer here/ up this way?

I've given up on st john...loved the first visit but the last couple of times we've been irritated that the food is either overpriced or just not as good as it should be for the prices that are being charged. Took my sister for some sort of celebratory meal last year and was very disppointed...Went to Vicky Stakes for my dad's birthday lunch about a year ago and it was ok but am not rushing back. Anyone been to the any of the pubs around highgate?

I have found Vic Stakes better recently - last meal there was very good (and note dh is ridiculously fussy after years of City expense account lunches)

We used to go to the Rose & Crown in Highgate - it was brilliant - owned by French chef. But he sold it and now the new ish owners just serve more regular pub fare.
