Does anyone know of a holiday park in Brighton or very near?

The Haven one is Camber sands but I think that may be too far away. Or other places to saty with a toddler? Will be my parents, DD and me probably May or June for a week.

I think that Hoseasons have got one in Eastbourne which isn't too far away

There's one just along the coast at Seaford, which I've driven past, many a time. Looks like a nice place to be,

Ah just looked and route map says 37 miles so bit too far. Ideally we'd be in Brighton but there doesnt seem to be a holiday park near enough so how about self catering places with parking? Or maybe that would be stupidly expensive I don't know?

I don't think Brighton is really geared up for the self catering market;more hotels and B & B's.
I think there is a Haven place at St Leonard's near Hastings but is quite a long drive from Brighton (but nearer than Camber Sands).

Butlins used to have a holiday hotel 5 mins out of Brighton but I'm not sure if they welcomed children, or if it's evens till open!

Yes, that was at Saltdean. But it's now being redeveloped into flats I think. I drove past there on Thursday and it's a building site now, not much sign of the original hotel.

Think it's been sold off and coverted into residential property.

Camber Sands isn't Haven (thank goodness!!) - you are probably thinking of Combe Haven, Hastings.

I do have a van at Camber Cands which I rent out, if you are struggling with finding somewhere close to Brighton. In fact all a lot of the owners come from Brighton so it's only an hour's drive a way.

Oh shame about the butlins one. I think you are right arcticroll and it is more hotels etc. Its so much easier to be self catering with a young child though and we need a fridge for her medicine. The problem we had when we stayed there before was the car parking too it meant it worked out so expensive. I think rally we want somewhere we can keep the car then bus or walk into the centre so needs to be quite close really.

I know you didn't really want caravans, but there is a campsite called

Sheepcote Valley

which is quite close to Brighton Marina and you could either walk or bus into town from there.

However, it's not really a holiday park.

Thanks but I think that one is for pitching your own caravan iyswim. I think we are probably going to have to rent somewhere self catering tbh. Just need somewhere child friendly as the ones I've seen so far look immaculate and not safe for a toddler. Gap in the market maybe?

On one of the searches I did a self catering hotel came up but it wouldn't let me onto the website, has anyone heard of it it sounds a good idea.

mrsrecycle thanks I saw your thread and was very interested but I think an hour away is too far sadly as we are going to spend time with family we have there so need to be very close.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you. Brighton is quite urban really, so that's probably why there isn't anything more suitable for you.

However, I will still keep my thinking cap on, and if anything else occurs to me, I will let you know.

Could you not just book a hotel or travelodge and go out lots?

Report
used2bthin · 28/02/2008 08:22

We stayed at the travel lodge last time and it was ok but we had to pay for parking still which made it really pricey. Also we definately need a fridge now as my DD is on medication and after 30 odd years of making it so that it can be taken out with you the manufacturers have now changed the formula so that it has to be kept in the fridge! All to save money no matter how it affects people who have to take it! but thats another thread.

could you not stay at the travel lodge and dump car at withdean park and ride? Although don't know what happens at when match on at the stadium...

Failing that, how about one of the YHA? They have self-catering facilities and family rooms (maybe too downmarket for your dad though! He could go in the travel lodge!)

Oh and also check out frio bags...
/www.diabeticshop.co.uk/insulin%20carry%20cases%20cooler%20bags.html available from various places - have not used this particular site myself - just wanted to illustrate what I meant!

These are commonly used by diabetics to keep insulin cool on long trips in hot places! If your dds medicine is not too big one of these may mean you don't need a fridge. It works by evaporation - they really are effective!

Oh thanks dilbertina that is really helpful. Can't get the link to work but am off to google the bag as if it's effective enough to last a few days that may be really good news to others in the support group for DD's condition(its actually similar to diabetes funnily enough) especially older sufferers who may understandably want to go on holidays or travelling without always having to be a fridge.
