Butlins

I have just had a "reasonable" quote for 3 nights in Butlins...around £450 right in the middle of the summer hols...

The last time I went was when I was a child and I remember it being pretty manky but it was cheap then....

My kids have never been...has anyone been recently and is it worth the money? (Skegness)

I'm with RubyRioja.

Dh and I had the exact same thoughts.

I think hell on earth, s*£!hole and others were used to describe it too.

I prefer Haven holidays, one of the main things for me is that the staff don't seem to be as "in your face" as the redcoats

right, well it certainly isnt centre parks. but we go as its definatly a kids holiday. yes its full of 'chavs' and people on lower incomes. like us.

we are going in june.

the pool is good, and is free. the fair is free, a lot of the entertainment is all free.

the afternoon shows in the 'big top' are a good way to break up the day between things.

they do plenty of activities and sports for the kids as well.

oh my god! don;t do it!!!!
we went to minehead last october and it was hideous, full of peopel with out of control kids, we got moved as a 'family' were so abusive becasue we asked them to keep the noise down when their children were running scooters up and down outside our chalet at 5.30 in the morning.
even the kids ebgan to hate it after a day there. so i would say ok for a day out where you don;t have to eat the food or bare the noise for too long.
never again is what i say, even if you paid me to go.

I know what dh and I did say about it that was positive.
It was a cheap base to see some of the surrounding areas.

We got a cheap deal so ended up paying £200 for 5 day stay in their "top" accomadation which was a gold 2 bed self catering apartment that was on 2 floors.

we went last summer and it wasn't full of chavs at all - a mix of people just like everything.

Was certainly able to get a Guardian in the newsagents every morning.

didn't have any trouble with noisy neigbours particularly

swimming pool was great

fun fair was great

family-friendy pub was great

didn't go to any of the evening entertainment so can't comment on that

I think maybe our DSs were a bit young for it (3,5 and 6m) and they are not sporty types so didn't want to do the football and stuff like that but I wouldn't dismiss it as a holiday again in the future.

I did come on MN first and ask what people thought and got a more positive repsonse than you have MrsSnape

we spend a lot of time on the beach (skegness one is right on the beach).

generally, as long as the accomadation os good i am happy. kids want bob the bloody builder (can u tell i am sick of bob lol), and little one likes noddy, they are happy i am happy.
