Advice on where to stay in London

We're going to London at the end of Oct. (myself, DH and DD age 7)

We live in Southampton. We will probably travel by train. The train goes into Waterloo.

Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay (nice, reasonably priced family friendly hotel) either near to Waterloo Station. Or somewhere easy to drive to and park with good access to central London.

Thanks

I would get the train for a start. You'll not need the car in central London, car parking at hotels will add up per day and you may have to pay the congestion charge.

What's your budget for a hotel?
There's a couple of good premier inns, one at county hall or a newish one near Blackfriars.
A couple of nice park plazas 5 mins away from Waterloo.
All depends on budget!

Premier inn's all have a big bed and then a single type day bed thing.

Are you wanting to stay in the centre?

Definetly catch the train, for reason above and it will take twice as long (have done trip recently myself)

We like The Pullman at St Pancras. It's run by all French staff, exterior plain but lovely new interior and gorgeous breakfast.

Friends have stayed in the premier inn at city hall before and liked it. It's a 2 minute walk from Waterloo!

If budget is a big factor google premier inn and chose one in zone 2. Clapham, Putney, Wandsworth. Those are the bits I know. Really fast into W'lol.

Why are you staying over ? Is it just for fun or do you have a late theatre etc? If you don't need to stay I would just get train home as Waterloo-Southampton only takes about 1hr20 and the trains run very late
If you need to stay echo premier inn recommendation
