Hiya we are staying in kingussie and want to do a dau trip to one of the heberidan island. Would love a scenic place, with lots of photo opportunities. We were thinking of Skye but wondering if too far to drive. Also how much do ferries charge

Skye is around 4 hrs away from Kingussie by road (via the Skye Bridge) so an 8-hr round trip - you would probably spend more time in the car than out of it. The other islands would take longer because of having to use ferries.

How long are you staying in Kingussie? It's in the Cairngorms National Park so the scenery is not baaaad. Loch Faskally at Pitlochry is also nice.

From Kingussie you have to drive to Spean Bridge, then up the A82 and over the Skye Bridge - or via Inverness. It looks closer on the map than it actually is. The bridge is free. There is also a ferry via Mallaig which is about £40 return for a car and 2 passengers. I drove to Mallaig from Kingussie recently and it took about 2.5 hours. The Skye bridge is not far off that. For other islands (Small Isles) you need Mallaig and these are really foot passenger only, for day trips. They are about £10 return.

All ferries are on www.calmac.co.uk.

You might be better trying to stay much closer to the coast on another holiday. But, enjoy the area - it is very beautiful
