London - where can we stay outside centre?

I'm taking the dcs to London for a few days. I'd like to take the car as we're going to do Harry Potter studios on last day then drive home (I haven't even looked where it is Hmm)

Anyway where can we stay where we can get access to the city directly for 2 days and then to HP studios

Thanks in advance

Watford? More likely to find a hotel with parking and that's where HP is. Fast train to Euston is 20 mins, underground / overground longer at 45-50 mins.

Anywhere on central line for easy access to west end, central London.

How about Ealing? It's on the Central and District lines as well as the direct train into Paddington (less than 10 minutes). It's on the right side of town for Harry Potter world, probably 30 mins drive from Watford in clear traffic (NB bear in mind that traffic is almost never clear....).

The Holiday Inn Express in Apsley - it's really near the studios and it's super close to Apsley station for trains into Euston.

Great thank you I'll take a look at Watford

It's just even the travelodges/premier inns are £300 for 3 nights and there's no parking

Just 20 mins by train into London???

Slough is horrible - I really wouldn't recommend staying there.
Second staying in Watford.

Where are you coming from?
Egham and Staines are just off the m25 and have trains to London, plus are an easy drive to HP
Lots of hotels around there

Twickenham is nice and you can get to Waterloo on the fast train in about 15 minutes.

The Hilton at Watford is fine, some of the rooms a little dated but plenty of parking.

Otherwise, how about the Doubletree at Ealing Common? Again, plenty of parking, close to several tube stations and not too far to drive to Watford on the way home.

We stayed at a premier inn just outside Harpenden that had parking at the hotel then parked at Harpenden station to take the train into London.

Coming from Cardiff so m4 m25

So which would be best bet Watford?
Travelodges are cheap there but there's a mercure St. Albans with a pool
Don't want to spend more than £70 a night

The Harpenden trains next stop was St. Albans & you would probably get a better choice from there.

Fair point re Slough - I haven't a clue! Am watching this with keen interest because I'd like to bring my DC to London for an overnight but don't know where to stay. Someone I know mentioned Slough. Happy to give it a miss though Smile

There's a premier inn Ealing which is £73 per night plus £10 parking per night
I suppose it would depend on cost of trains etc

For train stops I'd check national rail, but if you went for Hilton or Holiday Inn in watford, or Jury's Inn (I think, this is just from memory) they are on the road to the main station. Should have parking too but not sure of prices. Fast trains 18-20 mins, slow trains are Overground and 50 mins. You'll know by the number of stations shown on the departure board for each train. You can use contactless / oyster so pretty straightforward. St Albans also lovely, more historic, not sure about links to central London though.

Plus you can then take shuttle bus to HP studios from outside watford junction station.

My sister works at a hotel in Dagenham she says that there are a lot of London tourists staying there because it's cheaper.

Ealing is in Zone 3 so you are in travel card territory. You're probably 10-15 mins walk to Ealing Broadway staton from the Premier Inn.

I live near HP studios.. I would suggest Holiday Inn Express Hemel Hempstead. Hotel is actually in Apsley which is next to Grand Union Canal.. Lovely spot with nice pub/restaurant. Apsley has a train station going into Euston London and HP studios only a 10 min drive.Smile
