Hi,

I'm looking for a weekend break with DH. It has to be 1-2 hours from London.

Thinking of maybe bath, Bristol, Cotswolds, but not really sure. Any ideas?

Bath or Cambridge

Budget? And is this a romantic, lounging around drinking cocktails together break or a get out and see stuff city break?

Hotel du Vin is a nice boutique chain and there's a Bristol one and a Henley one. Oxford and nearby has lots of nice places.

What's your budget and what do you want to do? What type of hotels do you like?

Thanks everyone!

Budget is around £200 ideally.

Want something romantic and relaxing, but it'd be nice to be in a city with a bit of culture.

We've already done Cambridge.

Winchester.

Interesting historical small City, beautiful walk through water meadows, Winchester Cathedral, St Catherine's Hill, the Bush at Ovington, watercress beds, trout streams, thatched cottage villages like Wherwell and Long Parish nearby. 1 hour from Waterloo on the train, Bobs your uncle.

Cities:
Bristol
Cheltenham
Bath
Oxford

All have art galleries, cinemas, interesting architecture, restaurants, shops, museums, plenty to do and see

In Bristol and Cheltenham I like hotel du vin and they're not expensive so you'd probably just do it in your budget

Oxford has the Ashmolean

Oxford! Lots here to keep you busy and you can get the 'oxford tube' coach. Runs 24 hours every 15 min London to oxford :)

Bath, especially if there's a home rugby match on.

Or you could do a Cotswold pub type place

This is stylish. I've stayed, it's good.

Don't try to drive in Bath centre (or Oxford)
Dreadful, you'll waste a lot of time in traffic

Where in London roughly are you? It makes a huge difference if you only want one or two hours travel time.

Ah, your op said Bath etc so our suggestions are probably sensible in terms of travel time

Thanks! We would need to drive in! Maybe I should look at Cheltenham

Yes, www.wykehamarmswinchester.co.uk/ The Wykeham Arms. It is really central for all the most interesting/historic parts of the city but not on the High Street, so quiet and atmospheric.

Grew up in Canterbury, wonderful place, Pilgrims Hotel is great for location, nothing flash but very comfy and cosy. Canterbury Cathedral Lodge is one we've always wanted to stay in but can never get in as fully booked (we live in Oxford now and travel back a lot)
