Hi

We are planning 3 days in Whitstable last weekend of half-term holiday, DS (7 and 9) have Mon as inset day.

Never been before, can anyone recommend places to eat and things to do?

Thanks

  • Take them to Dreamland in Margate //www.dreamland.co.uk. It closes for a month after half-term though so avoid the Monday. There are Halloween-theme things on there through the week too.

- Although it might be a bit chilly for the beach, the sands in Margate or Westgate or Birchington are large when the tide is out (check tide times) so you can have a good run around / game of cricket etc
- If the weather is awful, maybe go to Canterbury for the day / part-day
- If you fancy an amazing restaurant where they are still good with kids, esp in daytimes, the Sportsman at Seasalter fits the bill. But they tend to book up well in advance so you'd need to check it out now.
- There are quite a lot of nice cafes / restaurants in Whitstable itself. Also a fish market down by the harbour where it's nice to wander and buy something for dinner.

Sure there are more….we mainly head that way for the beach! or Dreamland, which my kids love.

Hi Pootlebug

Thanks so much for the very helpful info. Love Dreamland, boys will love it too. Also the restaurant suggestions, which I will check out and book - always great to get some recommendations. DH and I are real foodies and we would be happy with nice places to eat out and a wander round the town looking at the shops etc, but good to have some alternatives for the kids.

Had planned on the beach, regardless of the weather just need to be prepared for all eventualities.... Can't imagine they will be doing any paddling in this weather, it has gotten cold very quickly...

Mumsnet has never let me down yet!
