A week with a 2 year old, where to go ?

We would like to go away in June with Ds for his 2nd birthday, live in the Midlands and don't want to be stuck in the car for hours so were thinking Wales or North Devon. We want to be near the seaside but be able to get to other activities too such as farms, play areas etc . We have a budget of around £300-400 and at the moment are considering Bluestone but where else might be good ? Self catering cottage style seems the most sensible and I don't want to camp.

We've stayed at three gates farm in north devon a couple of times. lovely cottages, pool and play area on site. Loads for a two year old within short driving distance, railway centre springs to mind immediately as my 2 year old's highlight! Downside is you're not near the seaside but we really liked being in the middle and close to everywhere. We were massively tempted to go back again this summer but they've let it out the middle weekend we need :-(
