Anyone used Single with Kids? Or any other experience of holidays as a single parent in the UK?

I'm looking for a summer holiday for me and DS (6). We've never holidayed on our own before (for the past two years we've been with family, or with my mum) so I was thinking of doing a Single with Kids, or similar, holiday.

Has anyone got any experience? On the one hand, it would be great for DS to have other kids on hand to play with and I'd probably enjoy the adult company too, but on the other hand I'm a bit wary of spending my summer holiday with strangers!

Also, we both really like the idea of camping but as I don't drive, it makes travelling and hauling a load of stuff difficult. Ideally, what I'd like would be a campsite with luxury tents set up that we could easily access by train and that would have some children of a similar age for DS to play with. Is that impossible?! Hmm

Have you thought of HF holidays? Accomodation is in their own hotels and nearly everyone in the hotel is on the same holiday, namely walking or activities. It is fully catered including a packed lunch, children under 11 are free on the walking holidays and there are play leaders for when you get back from the walks. I'm not a big walker I admit but the family walks can be 3-4 mile only (there are longer walks as well) and its very sociable with nice people.

Thanks for the tip *spababe". I've never heard of HF holidays but it sounds great, I'll definitely check that out.
