Where to Stay in Devon??????????

Hello! I'm hoping someone can help me! I'm looking to book a self-catering cottage in Devon next year (I know - I'm forward thinking)! It's for 5 people (3 x adults, 1 x 4 year old and 1 x 8 year old). Does anyone know of any fab places, close to a beach? We're following it up with a week in Bedruthan Steps so we're really not bothered which bit of Devon we get to - just thought we'd do a week in both counties!

Thank you!

I don't know of any properties but the Woolacombe and Morthoe area is lovely.

It's Cornwall rather than Devon but I can thoroughly recommend Niche Retreats, fab self catering

I absolutely loooove Ruda. It is a kind of holiday camp but a very pleasant one. It has camping, near the centre, then caravans at the back. But the best bits are the secluded area full of lodges which is right on the dunes and finally there is another area with purpose built appartments. The appartments are gorgeous with a private indoor pool and spa pool and sauna. The appartments face directly onto the large cove which is Croyde beach. Your french doors open onto this glorious vista.
It is near Barnstaple (20 mins) and Ilfracombe (30 mins). I have returned year after year and the whole family enjoy it.
It has a playground, fields, nightlife(cant be heard outside the building), an indoor pool with flumes, shop, restaurant, horse riding next door, buses etc and a great position on the edge of the beach. I dont find their website very promising so dont be put off by that.

my pil have recently converted their coachouse (that's what we've always called it!) into 2 self catering flats (which you cold rent as a whole)... they're just starting it this year....

the area is fantastic, North Devon Bideford... it's 10 mins from Westward Ho! lots of lovely cliff type walks... Big Sheep and Milky Way, and just a lovely spot of the country

The Hallsannery Estate also has a tennis court, walks over fields and of course lots of lovely views

Coachman's Cottage and Chauffeurs Flat

hope the link works and that you are still looking!

n.b will pay a sub to mumsnet as i suppose this is sort of advertising???

Lots of votes for North Devon, just adding mine fresh from two occasionally exhausting but very enjoyable weeks in Woolacombe.
Woolacombe proper is short on cottages as it is a mainly Victorian resort with later additions but has a fabulous main beach and two superb smaller ones in the Barricane and Combesgate, but just a mile or so north is Mortehoe, high on cliffs above Morte Point. It has more cottage type properties I think and is very pretty indeed. Small shops, a post office, and lobster caught fresh by the Huelins' boat the Walrus out of Ilfracombe. Delicious
