Rhyl - is it nice, worth going for the day?

Ds2 has asked to go to the seaside, so I was thinking of taking him to Rhyl.

Has anyone been there, and is it worth going for the day or weekend?

Any advice on very very cheap places to stay, eat etc?

Thanks

I wouldn't describe Rhyll as 'nice'. Can you carry on to Colwyn Bay or Llandudno?

I wouldn't tbh, not particularly nice there to say the least!

Rhyl is an absolute shit hole. Llandudno is a lovely, perfect seaside day out, donkey rides on the beach, Punch and Judy show on the seafront, lovely pier, tonnes of shops. I went the other week for a day out, was fab Smile

Rhyl was awful last time I visited, peeling paint and the smell of dirty chip fat hanging in the air.

Where are you? If you're in striking distance of Rhyl, I'd really recommend New Brighton on the Wirral post re-vamp! Fabulous places to eat with kids, soft play (not the one in the fair), clean beaches, not over-run, bowling, cinema, laser quest, Home Bargains! It's a bit of a hidden gem at the moment. Grin

As the others have said, avoid Rhyl. Carry on along A55 and go to Llandudno! You'll be glad you did, Rhyl isn't very nice.

It's not further to carry on the A55 to somewhere nice.

Rhyl really is shit, it's really sad because I used to love going there as a kid, it was ace now it's mega scummy, lots of boarded up places and crack heads.

Rhyl is not worth the journey, even if you're only a stone's throw away. As said above, Llandudno is well worth a slightly longer journey.

I really don't know what you all have against rhyl. We have just had a fab day their, Ds ran and played on the beach splashed in the sea it was clean, quiet, the car park is cheap the fish and chips and ice cream are good, we go every year and have a great time. Much better than being jostled and crowded in one of the more popular beaches.

I don't know Rhyl, but we went to Llandudno at Easter and thought it was really nice.

Drive a bit longer on the A55 and visit Llandudno, loads to do. Super prom, beach, shops, there is a Hop on Hop off bus, dry ski slope with toboggan run. Colwyn Bay and Rhos on Sea are nice too (my parents live locally).

Don't bother with Colwyn Bay either. Llandudno is lovely.

Thanks for all your help Grin

Almost unanimous that it's not worth going to Rhyl. Good job I checked before making plans.

Agree about Rhyl. I would throw kimnel bay - very close to Rhyl, next door to an Asda and delightful beach into the mix, and also Conwy or rhos. - both are great for crabbing. Rhyl is a shithole.

Oh, and whatever you do, don't go to Towyn either Confused

I'm from the area and tbh no, I wouldn't bother with Rhyl. You would probably find enough to do, and could avoid town centre and maybe try the little train ride around marine lake and the beach itself is ok on a good weather day. If could push on to Llandudno though there's so much more to do, even if weather not great x
