Lake District Luxury - NO KIDS!

There are a group of us planning a weekend away without the children to celebrate a milestone birthday in November. Travelling from Sunderland, Hartlepool and Halifax so have settled on the Lakes as a likely location as we can all get there within 1.5 to 2hrs. North Yorks is another possibility.

We want excellent food, preferably a spa and some luxury. Budget is fairly broad.

Any recommendations? So far have places like Samling, Holbeck Ghyll and Gilpin Lodge shortlisted.
