Furby started off being really cute and loveable but has now turned into some kind of pervy old man. His voice has gone really deep, he is burping/farting constantly, has stopped being affectionate and seems to be leering at me. edited by MNHQ

I think he's great but my 7 year old ds wants 'nice' furby back. Does anyone know if there's anything we can do to get our original Furby back?

MissyRain Thu 27-Dec-12 11:06:52

Be nice to it with lots of touching and cuddles and affection.

CatKitson Thu 27-Dec-12 11:09:28

Put the furby by music for 5 to 10 mins and it will turn into pop star furby, or stroke its head and back (according to dd and ds who have furbies), and keep on going. It will protest and say no no, but keep going and it will change into sweet furby.

If you feed it too much it turns into that kind of impolite furby, also if you pull it's tail or flip it upside down too often. You have to play with it nicely to keep it sweet.

You have to keep on going to get it to change - at least 5 mins of repeated action.

CatKitson Thu 27-Dec-12 11:12:26

My dd's furby keeps telling me "seriously, like you know. blah blah blah". Whenever I ask dd to do something she just holds up the furby, who then is cheeky to me. Kind of bad behaviour by proxy. I seriously want to throw the possessed little fucker in the bin. "DD can you please help me wash up and please can you pour your bro a drink?" I get in reply "blah blah blah, seriously?" from the fucking furby!

Everytime I change it back to sweet furby or pop star, she makes sure it reverts to the gossip/teenage American girl attitude. Fucking furby.

whethergirl Thu 27-Dec-12 11:19:58

Oh that makes it sense, we only found out how to feed him yesterday, so ds went a bit mad feeding him.

Our Furby keeps saying "noo noo" which is our word for vagina. Everytime I pick him up he growls and says "mmmmmmm noo noo" and then does an evil laugh.

Great tips, thank you. DS was complaining and said "I don't like Furby like this" to which Furby sniggered and said "tough!".

SheilaWheeler Thu 27-Dec-12 11:22:35

Oh, now I want a Furby!

I had one years ago that just burbled to itself, it was such a disappointment. Perhaps I could sneak a new one in and pretend it was my old one ......

CatKitson Thu 27-Dec-12 11:29:40

I threatened ours with removal of batteries, it laughed and said "forget it". They are scary little beggers. This helped a lot before I worked out how to use the app to translate. They really do respond if you speak to it in furbish. If it helps "noo noo" means "talk". You can find out its name if you tickle it three times and then stroke its back, it asks in furbish what you want to know, and will tell you its name if you ask, according to dd. Playing hide and seek with them is also fun. They also like "peek a boo".

Sheila, go on, get one. They are very funny.

whethergirl Thu 27-Dec-12 11:40:01

I've been on the website but it's only got a small amount of information on there. Furby even says stuff that's not included in the online dictionary.

Some great tips, thanks! CatKitson how do you play hide and seek with it? Or do you mean you just hide them and wait for them to talk for dcs to find them?

SheilaWheeler Furby kept ds, myself, my mum and sister entertained all day yesterday, and we all want our own one!

YNK Thu 27-Dec-12 11:48:39

Ours died yesterday. I bought it from tesco but not in our town. Will my local tesco help. I bought it on credit card so I should be ok for a refund anyway, but I'm not sure what the easiest way to go about it.
Very disappointed DGS!!!

CatKitson Thu 27-Dec-12 12:31:50

To play peek a boo, cover the furby's eyes, and then uncover. They react to this and it helps them stay "sweet".

I will sound like a nutter, but to play "simon says" tickle Furby's tummy, pet it on the back, clap your hands and cover its eyes. Then you just have to do what it asks you to do. You are rewarded by funny signs in its eyes, and it getting quite excited.

Hide and seek needs two people. One person to hide it, one to find. To start the game cover then uncover Furby's eyes four times. Furby will say its name then tell you to hide it. It makes little noises to help the finder locate it.

You can also teach it to give kisses apparently. Ill ask dd if you want to know more. She is the one trying to tame the little fucker atm.

We have two, and they talk to each other, even when I shut them in the cupboard to try and make them "sleep". The synchronised dancing is very cute.

Im still not sure if Im charmed or offended by them.

wrinklyraisin Thu 27-Dec-12 12:38:49

My stepdaughters evil little fucker seems to wink at me all the time and say mmmmmm mmmmmm. I refuse to be in the same room. I think they are like gremlins and will eventually take over the world. Scary.

CatKitson Thu 27-Dec-12 12:44:04

Whethergirl, if you have an ipad or ipod touch there is a translation app which helps a lot. You can also feed them from it apparently.

Wrinkly, they remind me of gremlins too. I take out the batteries at night time when the dc are sleeping paranoid

Hulababy Fri 28-Dec-12 19:39:09

YNK - did you do a refresh after new batteries? Friend has had two "die" today and new batteries didn't help until they did the refresh button. Think you have to hold it down for a few seconds. It's personality doesn't change when you do this.

These is a full restart too which takes it back to its original settings - google.

YNK Sat 29-Dec-12 16:45:38

Thanks Hulababy. I have a new one now, thats definately broken. It makes a quiet 'noise' and needs refreshed after about 10 seconds, so it's going back too. I'm fed up and going to get my DS something else!

YNK, we thought our dd's furby had died but you have to put new batteries in and press the reset button for about a minute.

Cross post Hula.

LadyBeagleEyes Tue 29-Jan-13 15:45:19

I wanted one for Christmas but no one obliged sad
I want a furby more than anything else in the whole world.

littlesos Tue 29-Jan-13 15:45:33

We have two furbies, and they spend ages talking to each other. I really like the evil one and frequently overfeed DD1 furby to make him evil!

ICouldBeYou Tue 29-Jan-13 15:46:18

where's the reset button?

Cute, but way too expensive imo!

Midwifeandmum Tue 29-Jan-13 15:52:42

I think their creepy, spent ages trying to get one for my dd1 (whos 3) for xmas. Then i got one and she played with it for 30 mins on xmas day and that was it. It developed a scary personality lol. It had flames on it's eyes and had a wicked laugh. Their personality is shaped by how u play with it. My daughter threw it about lol. I agree tho, really expensive

Floggingmolly Tue 29-Jan-13 16:05:20

God, the sinister little buggers have personalities????

pirouette Tue 29-Jan-13 16:07:32

remove it's batteries and 'lose' it.

LadyBeagleEyes Tue 29-Jan-13 16:10:48

You can send all unwanted furbies to me grin.
I shall start a furbie colony, where we will all live in peace and harmony while we plot how to take over the world.

Midwifeandmum Tue 29-Jan-13 16:14:26

Yip floggingmolly they have personalities. After dd1 left it lying around, i took batteries out. U can't switch them off, they just go on and on and on and on until the batteries are whipped out quickly lol

Locketjuice Tue 29-Jan-13 16:15:04

I had no idea furbys did any of this.. I want onegrin I thought they just said some preset phrases... hmm

Reaa Tue 29-Jan-13 16:32:15

frazzledbutcalm Tue 29-Jan-13 21:04:50

We don't have a furby in our house .... from what you all say they sound freaky and scary!!! Ds1 is way too old (19), Dd1 is too old (13), Dd2 age 9 and ds2 age 7 would both absolutely run in horror ........
I think I'd need wine every night because of them!! hmm .... must buy a furby when shopping tomorrow wink

Haberdashery Tue 29-Jan-13 21:08:05

Darrell, you have made me snort wine up my nose a bit. Bless.

LaTristesse Tue 29-Jan-13 21:18:35

Just marking my place so I can play Simon Says with ours tomorrow grin

Catmint Tue 29-Jan-13 22:44:41

I really hate the Valley Girl Furby, so disrespectful! The sweet one is so twee is is nauseating. I like the burpy one best.

Do they all have the same 3 personalities? Sounds like it from this thread.

I still have my old Furby, and we play hide & seek & Ask Furby with it. Didn't know you could play games with the new ones.

My dd(4) got one for her birthday from my parents, the ungrateful little madam told them she wanted a purple one and barely looked at it for a week. Funnily enough now the batteries have died its her favourite toy grin

MonaLotte Wed 30-Jan-13 09:59:01

Ds will be 5 on his birthday, do you think that's too young?

MonaLotte Wed 30-Jan-13 09:59:25

For a furby! Stupid ipad...

claireybaby29 Wed 30-Jan-13 12:35:50

Well we,ve had one since christmas and at first it was really cute and had a very cute voice, now it talks like a furby with attitude and sounds like a chav. Sometimes it talks in a cross foreign voice, so it seems it has many personalitys. We,re not sure how to get it to stick to one or go back to being reallyt cute again . I think it maybe a case of the more time you spend with it the more you can shape it,s personality. My daughter rarely plays with hers as it started talking in the middle of the night and I think now it freaks her out with the angry old man voice and the chavvy voice that keeps saying blah blah to her just annoys her. So not an awful lot of time is spent with it. I however think it,s hillarious and they are very cute, but Some of the voices could be off putting for kids.

JoannieJones Wed 30-Jan-13 12:36:25

I bought my DD an old style Furby when she was about 3, thinking she'd love it, and she was completely traumatised and terrified by it. Even seeing an advert for one or an advert for something with a similar logo terrified her. She wouldn't go into any shops that may have them for at least a couple of years. The benefit was that she could watch no telly channels with adverts or go into any shops that sold toys til she was about 8 years old!

spongebobscardypants Sat 02-Feb-13 19:13:36

Ok so I got a furby and want to know the trick n tips. I tried the covering eyes four time to play hide n seek, it won't work!

RetroStyler Sun 22-Sep-13 14:15:12

A valid question and comments but this original posting really made me chuckle! In particular - "he is burping/farting constantly, has stopped being affectionate and seems to be leering at me".

katiebrown1969 Tue 04-Mar-14 08:39:43
