Difference between ds lite and dsi

My DS is quite desperate for a dsi. I initally wasn't keen because his ds lite works perfectly well and it seemed a waste of money to upgrade. I have now learned that we could trade in his ds lite which would reduce the cost of the dsi and he has money left over from his birthday and has had Christmas money too so he would have enough depending on how much he gets for trading in his original one.

Does anyone have any advice? Are there any reasons for sticking with what we've got or will he instantly adore the dsi?

I think DS-I is basically a DS-Lite with Internet access. I didn't want Darling Son to have unfettered Internet access, so DS-Lite was only option for us.

Is it easy to connect to the internet? We don't have a wireless router. After having the Wii for a year, I've only just found out that that can be connected to the internet - though it'll take me at least another year to figure how to do it!!

I think DSi can talk to any wireless network once basic browser software downloaded; and yes, I think we'll all be wireless soon, or they will go places with wireless (school, for instance).
Some physical stat comparisons. Better camera function with DSi. More about the diffs here, too.

Keep in mind that any 2 DS can wifi to each other anyway, but it's hopping onto Internet that is new DSi-only function. Is there a Net-Nanny software option for the DSi?

Ok, so I'm less enthusiastic about it now. How do I persuade ds?

He is also pestering me for a mobile phone but at 7yrs old I said he was too young and there is no need for him to have one. 2 of his classmates have them.

I think the main attraction to a mobile is the games and the camera functions. I wonder if there is software that could do similar photo alterations to the dsi. I have an old digital camera that he could use as an alternative but probably wouldn't be as 'cool'!!

Ds is the only child in the family and whilst I can be firm and say no to such things as mobile phones etc my family often want to go and get whatever toy he is after at any given moment. My sister almost bought him a mobile as an extra Christmas present until she saw the look on my face!! I wouldn't be suprised if someone gets him one for his birthday but I will be cross and they will be returning it!

Have you got a Wii? If so you can stick an SD card into it with photos on, and mess round with them, make jigsaws etc.

ywnw - I've just bought a webcam to use skype so will have a look at the software that came with it.

CDM - yes, we have a wii and an SD card (I think) so will definitely investigate that. There are so many things on the Wii that I never knew about!
