Fisher Price garage - sticky lift - any help?

DS (18mo) received the Fisher Price Little People Garage for Christmas and the good news is that he loves it. The bad news, however, is that the lift is sticky and twice now he has been pushing it down and the poor little sod has banged his head on the top of the garage when the lift suddenly went away from him! I have now been pushing the lift myself whenever he goes to push it but that's not what he wants - nor me!!

Does anyone have nay ideas on how we can sort this?! It seems to operate by a plastic cog system.

take it back and get a replacement...consumer rights...they are bloomimg exensive enough. Initially try a squirt of silicone furniture cleaner...ie pledge
