What are the best toys that aren't?

So far my 4 month old's favourite toys are DH's sunglasses and an a plastic tupperware container.
He's a lot more interested in everyday objects rather than the usual plastic baby toys.
What sort of ordinary things fascinated your baby?

When i buy a new big pack of nappies, the kids (4 and 2) play with them for AGES. Making nests/towers etc... strange children....

Saucepan and wooden spoon, great for when you're atempting to cook dinner!

Thanks Fermina! I'm definitely going to try some of those. I've got a long haul flight on Sunday evening and I want a big bag of tricks if he refuses to sleep!

Yes, wooden spoons, for baths (??) and also as a pair of oars when in a plastic washing crate.

DD had a favourite toy we affectionately called "strap". A piece of plastic.

I also bought some velcro and sewed it in strips on a piece of fabric for endless ripping off. Hours of entertainment there.

We have a treasure basket, has had a lot of use, but the big favourite with both kids is a plastic plug on a chain got for pennies in Wilkinsons. It goes together with an old ring box with a lid - endless fun to be had putting it in, closing the lid, opening the lid, taking it out ... well you get the picture

Also an old oven glove and a rubber glove (DS has a somewhat fetisistic relationship with the latter)

And, as of course they love anything they see using, we had to get DS his own remote control in order to reclaim ours. Bought one from Poundland, with big colourful buttons, and he loves it (though he thinks it's a mobile phone)

Training golf balls, made of lightweight plastic with holes in.

Wooden spoons of course.

And this isn't much use for your long-haul flight, but my 6 month old just wants to lick the castors on swivel chairs.

Not a baby, but my 4 year old got hold of the pack of disposable knickers that I took to hospital when having DD and never used. 2 months later they are still in his room - he calls them "ice creams"

Ah yes, disposable knickers. Our DS1 uses them as 'rocks' in his digger bucket.
