When you miss a lift....

Hi everyone- I was going to post this on what did you pick up today thread but I didn't pick it up! Really gutted that missed 85kg on my deadlift the first attempt was half way there and I gave up too soon as I was worried I was rounding my back and then attempt 2 was worse and 3 didn't get off the ground! I don't mind being beaten when it's too heavy but you know that feeling when you really feel like you should have it? In my mind I was sure I would finish on 90 today. Then when I walked away I got to the door and I couldn't see and nearly passed out! I saw a video on fb today a friend of a friend RAF PTI she looks about 75kg and she deadlifted 170kg!! Maybe it made me too impatient about my own gains as I have a goal to compete in a local powerlifting meet in 2016 and just want to get closer to where she is!! Do you ladies keep re attempting missed lifts (slowly getting worse) in the hopes that determination will get it up or abandon it until another session?

I think if you don't feel like your technique is perfect, or it's just not happening on the day, it's best to leave it, as you did. IMO it's simply not worth the risk of injury that will set you back so much more than a bit of patience. Don't compare yourself to others (comparison is the thief of joy!) you have plenty of time to progress at your own pace and enjoy your achievements Smile, there's no rush!

I understand your frustration and it can be difficult not to keep trying but you'll get it next time!!!! ( if not more)

Also don't wait to compete in a powerlifting competition. Do it now. You'll never feel "strong enough". I've done 2 and they are really really motivating. There's also a strong possibility that you'll be the only one in your age/ weight class if it's not massive comp.

Don't be in envy of others the only competition I have is me v me. I don't look at my friends and want to look or be like them I want a better version of myself. I'm challenging myself to do more than I did yesterday. Remember it's not a race you'll get there don't overthink it when your doing the lift pep talk to yourself just before it really does help. You can do this just go for it

OMG I've just typed what my coach says when the going gets tough. Crying out loud with laughter I do repeat it when I am training alone.

Mide7 - thanks for the steer ref the competition, I know you are right about having a go but maybe it's vanity or fear but I just don't want to go until every lift (except bench) is over 100kg! Even for a local comp! I am 65kg at moment squat is 92, DL 85, also I wpuld need to lose a bit of weight as wouldn't it be better points wise to try and get in 63kg category than the under 75kg??
Pumpkin- thanks for the tips! You are completely right but it's easy for your brain expectations to run far ahead of your body ones isnt it! thabks a lot everyone sincerely for your comments def cheered me up after I felt really blah about my lifting yesterday xx

I totally get want your saying and to be honest I had the exact same fears before I competed. I didn't want to get shown up or finish last. My first comp was a national qualifier and there were 6 people in my weight class. I finished 3rd so not that bad.
