I have just read an article about this...absolutely disgusting, and it really just shows that the police have been too soft on these yobs, masquerading as animal rights activists for too long........

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but what I don't understand is how the sabs can freely go around the countryside hiding their faces? They are so intimidating (especially to kids) yet get away with it and in this case have the confidence to beat the crap out of someone. If you don't like hunting and want to spend your day protesting then have the guts to show your face.

Too right, and there's a difference between going along to protest and going along 'tooled up' with iron bars etc (saw it in the paper today). Apparently they were spraying citronella at the hounds, and they call themselves animal lovers! I dread to think what that stuff does if it gets in your eyes.

Vile people. I am a hunt groom and have worked with hunters for years. I hage no problem with anyone being am 'anti' and respect their opinion as much as I hope they respect mine, but the hunt sabs association are thugs in balaclavas who have done some awful things in the past.

Don't agree with violence in these situations. It hurts the cause.
Otis ferry on the other hand, storming parliament, assaulting two hunt protesters....

Has a huntsperson ever been found guilty of assault on a hunt saboteur?

Oh that's awfyl. I don't hunt but I can't understand these people at all. How can you be saying on one hand that living creatures should all be treated equally and then beat someone with an iron bar?

It reminds me of protests where 'anarchists' join just to cause trouble.

Hang on,I think I can answer my own question.
Yes.

Well, whilst i agree that was a disgusting thing to do, when i was a hunt sabateur (a very young niave 15yo). What we did was run in front of the hunt and spray garlic around to put off the hounds. If you want intimidating, you need to meet a hunt "terrier man" the guy who follows the hunt in his "landy" with his gang of skin head mates who send their dogs down the fox holes (the ones that haven't been previously filled in to prevent the foxes from going to ground) to flush the fox out rip it to shreds Vile disgusting people. I am not sure if they still exist but we were always told to stay in groups as people had been beaten up by these thugs. I don't know if anyone has been found guilty of assault, but i am pretty sure they must have because i know it has happened. As i say, its generally not the naice people on their sunday jaunt who do that sort of thing though, its the terrier men.

There seems to be a whole chunk of my post missing.

To be fair there were some thugs on the anti side and that is one of the reasons i stopped going to these things.

I thought hunting with hounds was banned now?

lemisscared · 30/01/2015 16:41

Moreis, it wouldnt surprise me if that is what happened here, there would be peaceful protesters, um, noisy protesters and then rent-a-mob (deeply unpleasant frightening group of people)

Google convicted hunt supporters.
Its an eye opener.

I'm anti hunting but my friend does hunt and she openly admits that they don't bother t call of the hounds.

Seriously.....read it...
Its a long long list.

Report
ThatBloodyWoman · 31/01/2015 08:33

Let me detail a few from the list :

Using a shotgun to shoot a hole in the radiator of a minibus occupied by sabs

ABH's

Whippings with riding crops

Affrays

a sab being pushed in front of a speeding quad bike

attack with a scythe

attack with a spade handle -the attacker was wearing a balaclava....

there's plenty more.....

Op,are you there still?

Report
mrslaughan · 31/01/2015 14:24

yes I am, and I have no sympathy for anyone committing a violent act against another human being - no matter which side you are on. - yes hunt supporters shouldn't take it into there own hands, but attacking someone with an iron bar is just as abhorrent, which was what I commented on. They were very happy to continue the attack, kick a man in the head while he is on the ground, all while being videoed. Probably knowing they won't be identified because they are allowed to go around with there faces covered.

I don't hunt, not interested, but roaming the countryside in balaclavas should not be allowed, and the police have been far too tolerant in my opinion. protest yes, but peacefully, everyone is entitled to their opinion.- you obviously believe that the violence is justified, but maybe only if they agree with you?

Where have I said the violence is justified?
I was simply pointing out that there's another side.

Report
mrslaughan · 31/01/2015 19:48

there is never another side when you get a man on the ground, kick him in the head until he is unconscious....I am sorry but there just isn't.

The point that I'm trying to make is that the violence isn't the one-sided situation that pro-hunters seem to like to make out that it is.
I think people should know that because the hunting fraternity have a much louder voice than the sabs, probably owing to the powerful positions commanded by some members of the Hunt.
I have been careful not to condone any violence.

Report
mrslaughan · 31/01/2015 21:08

But it is not only about violence - it is also about intimidation - covered faces, following people home who have been at a hunt - that operates within the law, photographing house, car, horse truck etc......this is thuggish behaviour and done to intimidate....that is abhorrent too.

there are I am sure wrongs on both sides......but saboteurs that follow a hunt faces covered, yelling abuse at children - the police should be doing something about that intimidation.

I would have a lot more sympathy for the anti hunt lobby if they protested without the intimidation tactics that a percentage of them employ.

put it this way - if you had people in balaclava's outside a mosque or synagogue yelling abuse, intimidating children and following people home, the police would do something about it.

mrs I am a countrywoman.
I know a lot of people involved in the hunting fraternity.
You're barking up the wrong tree here. There's nothing you've said about the sabs there that couldn't be applied to the hunt and supporters.

Read the list mrs. Read the list.
