it's about keeping a yard that is basically a busy thoroughfare as clean and tidy as possible Blush

have made big improvements simply by sweeping it a few times a day but the nicer it looks the nicer I want it to look if you see what I mean? other yards, where people just lead horses in and out, look great but this one has tractors going in and out of the barn (only sometimes not multiple times a day) at one end and a muck heap at the other, and some of the concrete is all bobbly and likes to collect bits of dirt and straw and hay

what would or do you do in a similar situation? I was thinking of sort of sluicing it and then scrubbing with a broom but it's all only just stopped being flooded

Can't really help. We sweep the yard and tack room (where we also store feed) once a day after mucking out so it's tidy. We wouldn't do it again - too soul destroying!

Envy

but thanks!

this is probably mission improbable, but you never know, someone might pipe up with a link to The Most Amazing Yard Brush Ever or something

Gorilla brooms are good. As are the corn ones for getting dust out of corners etc on dry concrete.
Can you share out the sweeping with other liveries? (Sorry not clear if it's your own private barn or a livery yard)

I don't know about the leaf blower Confused but I might treat myself to a new broom! If there is one lying around unused somewhere (possible) I will try it, otherwise a big expense for something that is probably just a phase I'm going through?

I notice other liveries are doing more sweeping too so I think it must be catching. Grin

A tidy yard isn't a phase unless you are pregnant and nesting

other than that you have to tackle the "bits" head on. Covers for wheelbarrows, picking feet out into buckets before walking on the yard etc.

I second the leaf blower! I've been known to use it to help with mucking out shavings too!

I can't be pregnant I'm too old! I think Hmm actually let's not think about that

doesn't the leaf blower just blast it all indiscriminately everywhere?
