riding boots

I've just started riding again after over 25 years out of the saddle. I'm pleased to say i found an old pair of jodhpurs that still fit but i need to buy some boots. I'm loathe to spend lots of money on riding boots but i don't fancy johdpur boots (i'm too old Smile).
Can anyone suggest something please?
I have some leather Timberland dog walking boots that i wore yesterday but they have a long zip and it left a nasty sore mark on the inside of my calf. Both of them. So i don't really want to wear them again.
TIA

I came back to riding after a long break too, the costly mistake I made was buying a cheaper pair of riding boots but I soon realised that they simply weren't as good as some of the more pricey ones. I ended up buying a pair of ariat grasmeres using an offer code from a cheap online saddler and they are fab, the cheaper pair are in my garage, and I could have saved myself the £60 I spent on them! The Ariats are also very pretty and double up as country boots too. I have tried other pricey brands but they are not all equal! I think there is a quote from someone saying that you should buy the best bed and boots you can afford as if you're not in one then you're in the other.

What about jodhpur boots with suede or leather half chaps. that way you won't look like an overgrown child and it is a cheaper option than leather riding boots which cost a fortune and not necessarily easy to find ones that fit.

Why do you need long boots? I'd definitely go for the jod boots you're wearing and a pair of nice half chaps. I wear Ariat jod boots and Black leather Ariat half chaps and they have lasted me 5 years +

If you plan to compete then you can choose the best boots you can afford. By then your calf size may have changed if you're riding regularly.
