why am I suddenly horrifically lop-sided in the saddle?

have been googling 'the collapsed hip' and I think that's it, my weight drops almost entirely into my right heel - it's only since riding another horse more often that I've discovered I am the reason the pony's saddle slides slowly down his right side blush since I do the same thing to something similarly fat shaped. In fact the only one I don't actually slide off after half an hour or so is my own high-withered one.

am pretty sure I never used to ride like this, so why has it happened and what can I do about it? am a freak sad

Getting older? Stiffening up? I have one signifigantly less bendy hip nowadays!
P.S. Helloooo! Where have you been hiding and how the devil are you?

ScabbyOozingCarbuncle Wed 23-Oct-13 22:06:37

Its me, Saggy BTW! wink

my LOVE! I wonder about you a lot! are you ok? I am still where I always am smile but got addicted to running this summer and am getting ready for the edinburgh marathon (which is ages away)

old and stiff might be it, all my joints are a bit crunchy these days! hmm

love the new name!

ScabbyOozingCarbuncle Wed 23-Oct-13 22:15:25

Its just for Halloween!
Edinburgh eh? Arent there any closer marathons? smile
The running may be the problem. New muscles in new places which are messing with your seat?
Im ok. Currently getting kicked in the bladder!

I've just had the same discussion in my dressage lesson tonight. That and riding with stupidly long reins. The long reins we attributed to the endurance riding and I'm wondering if collapsing my hip is because I'm back riding my welsh cob again as she always has that effect on me?!

Mitchy1nge Wed 23-Oct-13 22:24:13

kicked in the bladder! squeeeeal! oh how exciting!

glad is not just me horseylady, my left knee is always complaining about something and I think I'm unconsciously shifting my weight away from it whenever possible

(sags, there is 'essex 20' which I'll be doing somewhere nr colchester in march if you want to lob pies and cheese in my direction smile)

ScabbyOozingCarbuncle Wed 23-Oct-13 23:52:35

Ooh! I will indeed! I will be on mat leave by then, but Ill still come cheer you on!

Mitchy1nge Thu 24-Oct-13 13:16:41

when is baby due? I keep smiling just thinking about this! much nicer than wondering whether I can sit upright on a horse ever again

ScabbyOozingCarbuncle Thu 24-Oct-13 15:27:26

13 march. smile

Mitchy1nge Thu 24-Oct-13 15:30:38

smile but will the baby be as fluffy and cute as your foals so far?

ScabbyOozingCarbuncle Thu 24-Oct-13 15:32:56

well I hope so! lets hope she looks like her Daddy! grin

Mitchy1nge Thu 24-Oct-13 17:00:02

oi! don't know what her dad looks like but she will be lovely if she turns out like you, silly! (poss not quite as lovely as Alfie was when he was a new baby though grin)

Pixel Thu 24-Oct-13 17:13:54

Oi, no baby talk in the Tack Room, I come here to forget about the fact that I'm both broody and old!

Pixel Thu 24-Oct-13 17:15:52

(joking btw! Congratulations even if I am envy)

will have cake to celebrate.

ScabbyOozingCarbuncle Thu 24-Oct-13 21:28:55

I hope she wont be quite as big as Alfie though! And only 2 legs would be a bonus! hmm confused grin
Sorry Pixel. I couldnt help it! blush

Mitchy1nge Fri 25-Oct-13 22:16:16

smile she will be even nicer than a foal I'm sure (do you ever dream that you are having different baby animals? had that so often when I was pregnant!)

but still don't know why I am riding like a strange lop-sided weirdo, whether I will just magically stop it or if there is something I could/should do - is not a great position for full days of hunting is it

ScabbyOozingCarbuncle Fri 25-Oct-13 22:27:12

I reckon its your new running muscles making it harder to open your hips on a wider horse.

Mitchy1nge Fri 25-Oct-13 22:37:35

argh I bet you are right, you so often are!

so . . . finally find something I like doing that isn't illegal and that I can actually afford and it interferes with the rest of my life

WHY IS LIFE SO CRUEL

ScabbyOozingCarbuncle Fri 25-Oct-13 22:39:39

grin
Im sure you can fix it! Maybe you need a session or two with an instructor who can make suggestions?

Mitchy1nge Fri 25-Oct-13 22:43:49

or could just get some skinnier horses?

Pixel Fri 25-Oct-13 23:09:18

Ooh you need a lesson on one of those mechanical horse things that's all computerised and tells you if you are sitting up straight or not. I'm dying to have a go, I've seen them at a couple of shows this summer but didn't quite have the nerve with all the people there.

I always knew running was bad for you, which is why I never do it except in extreme circumstances such as chasing an icecream van.

ScabbyOozingCarbuncle Sat 26-Oct-13 00:04:10

No no Pixel thats not how you do it! you listen out for the ice cream van chimes, then drive further up the road, stop and wait. Saves running at all then! grin
Or, failing that make a child do the running! wink

Pixel Sat 26-Oct-13 00:48:20

Can't do that, the chimes mean they've run out of ice-cream dontcha know <cruel parent>.
