The lovely lady I work for is interested, and I told her that I would ask you all about it.

awful! my old pony had them on at one point (his owners choice, not mine) as her other horse wore down shoes really quickly - they lasted longer but the pony i rode ended up with crap feet and was so footsore. went back to normal shoes and never looked back. maybe the farrier we experienced was a dud but i wouldnt touch them again.

he used to bang on about how they were used a couple of hundreds years ago when horses were on the roads all the time? have to say that came across as more of a negative than a positive to me. i really dislike the "standard" shoe sizes and shapes - whatever the website says, horses feet are not standardised (yes they have the same basic structure, doesnt make it standard) and i dont think standardised shoes will work for every horse

i also dislike that dirt and potentially stones can dislodge underneath. the farrier said we didnt need to pick out their hooves which i was a bit Hmm at as stones etc could lodge by the sides of the frog

Hmm. See I don't know much about shoes, as mine are barefoot and I trim them myself.

Don't go there. It's been largely discredited.

we had cytek for a while, I think there is a thread about it in here somewhere (probably under my old name) because we were between farriers and that was all we could get

apparently they can be very good as a remedial sort of thing, know a pony who was saved by cytek, but otherwise the horror stories are really off putting and the thinking behind them just seems weird so we are back to barefoot with one (yay!) and traditional fronts for the other

(we didn't have any problems at all with them, but I didn't like not being able to pick out their feet properly)
