what condolences are appropriate when a horse dies?

if you sort of know and like the owner and are heartbroken for their loss, but not close enough to feel confident about going round and crying with them in person - would you send flowers, a card? it's always so sudden and shocking isn't it (colic) :(

I had flowers from my livery yard, and cards from friends and family when I lost my mare many years ago.

Whatever you want to do really. I still have the cards. I am sure if you do a Google search you will find some appropriate words (unless of course you are a wordsmith yourself)

I have written letters to friends who have lost horses - always been appreciated.

A card I think. With a heartfelt but ungushing note in it. Just to let them know you are thinking of them.

it's hard not to gush, I'm a sort of grief thief, good idea about flowers from entire yard though - will see if others are interested in doing something collectively

in meantime will drop off a 'sorry for your loss' card, and I really am, he belonged to a little girl who was absolutely devoted to him :(
