I fell off yesterday over a largish jump (out hunting), and had to go home as I couldn't remember easily what day it was, had double vision and couldn't get my right hand to obey me at all - it was the wierdest thing I've ever experienced. The eyes and hand are fine now, but I still have a stonking headache which not even Paracetamol/Codeine will touch.
I'm spending the rest of the day whimpering in front of the fire and think that if it still hurts tomorrow a trip to the gp will be in order. I've fallen off a fair amount but that's the first time I've banged my head - not an experience I want to repeat in a hurry!
Make sure you replace your hat before you ride again. Sounds like you had quite a clunk.

You mean you fell on your head? You really ought to see GP or hosp to make sure.
You might have damaged your neck or spine. I got tipped off onto my head by an eventer, and after a long period of headaches the GP couldn't help with, I asked if he minded me seeing an Osteopath (he thought it was worth a try). The osteo found the top three joints had been pushed together and were not moving, he pulled and freed them off, made a tremendous improvement.
Obviously yours may be entirely different.
I am not a pro.
Ohh no,frosty.I wondered how you'd got on.
Please get checked out properly,I was on the scene of two hunting accidents a few weeks back, and the ambulance men said that it is vital to get it checked out properly if it is a head, neck or back injury. Can you go to A&E instead-it'll be quiet on a Sunday night.
Hope you feel better soon.
I didn't fall directly on my head, but although I'm feeling a lot better today, I will get it checked out tomorrow (I have an interview tomorrow at 9am which I daren't miss, but will go to A&E straight after). I suspect it's a bit like a whiplash injury and will also get an osteo appt as soon as I can.
Thanks for your comments, it did scare me quite a bit, and I appreciate your concern.
Well I managed to get through the interview although I don't think it was a sparkling performance! I've been to A&E who have said it is concussion and that I'm to lie low for a couple of days and take paracetamol and ibuprofen for the next 3 days for pain relief and to reduce the swelling.
The doctor said that when he saw horse people they always apologised and seemed embarrassed, but that other sports people weren't bothered!
My intention of a half day on Saturday has gone out of the window and I think I'll aim for a quiet day on the hills next week, with no fearsome jumps to worry about!
I'm glad you got checked out and are on the mend.Is there anyone who can supply chocolate and cups of tea whilst you recuperate?
Saggy,that sounds awful!
Hope you're feeling a bit better today Frosty!
Still a bit woozy, I had to take dc to dentist this am which is an hour each way and did feel a bit wiped out when I got back.
I've got to walk the dogs and sort the horses but I've lit the fire and will go and recline for a couple of hours once those jobs are done.
The gp said to me "remember that it's not a headache, it's brain injury" which was quite frightening!

Poor you!
I remember having concussion at 15yrs and really struggling to take my spurs and chaps off due to treble vision
Hope you feel better soon
I've just come back from another trip to the doctor following on from last week. I've had a sore back which I've only really noticed since the w/end as all the other aches and pains have worn off. He thinks I have squashed a disc or two in the fall - marvellous. He offered an xray but as there is no specific treatment we've agreed to leave it and if there is no improvement in 10 days I will have one. I'm free to carry on, with care and ibuprofen!
I've also damaged a ligament in my finger - I thought it was a bit sore - and again that should just heal in time.
I feel a bit decrepit really, but there we go.
