Synthetic Saddle

Hi there, I have decided to sell my horse's synthetic saddle as at the age of 25 have decided to retire him.

Bit sad about retiring him as he is hooning round the field like a 4 year old (ex racer TB I've had since he was 9) but his back is not up to it anymore.

Anyway - I am trying all the usual outlets for sale but have an 18" Wintec VSD saddle with narrow gullet fitted (also with medium) for sale if anyone is interested? Looking for £175, bought it £265 new and it only really had a year's worth of light use. I am in northamptonshire but could post if necessary. Its very comfy!

Have you tried ebay? I wouldn't buy a saddle from there but lots of people do!

Is it similar sort of fit to the thorowgood high wither gp or as adjustable? I might be interested, though they look a bit straight cut for jumping. Is there much knee department padding?

Sorry for the thread hijack but can you talk to me about synthetic saddles?

DD1 has 2 ponies but has seen a blue buddies synthetic saddle on the interweb and really really fancies it Grin

Are they as good as a leather saddle?

LovePink It's a VSD which stands for very slightly dressage Hmm so is basically a straighter cut GP without being a dressage saddle. They are good if like me you have short legs as you can do everything in them without looking silly. If you have long legs you will probably find you haven't enough space on the knee roll to put your stirrups up for jumping but it does also depend on the length of the panel.

imust synthetic saddles can be as good as leather ones but only if they fit! So you would still need to get it checked by your saddler. They are good in the sense that they don't need cleaning and tlc like a leather one but I doubt you will get any resale value from it and you may not be able to use it at shows or pony club etc (if you do that kind of thing) I've only seen the one you're talking about in catalogues, not in the flesh. oh that's what vsd stands for!

Lovepink - i don't know about the thorowgood fit i'm afraid so can't compare the two. But it is straighter (very slightly dressage!) than the normal gp wintec version that my cousin has. It fitted my very high withered horse and me well as the gp was too forward cut for him. And my legs are short!

I did jump in it and had no problem by putting stirrups up as normal, depends how much jumping you do I guess.

Not really into ebay so advertising with local rcs/ pc etc first to see.

I didn't know what it stood for either.Blush
I've got short legs so I'll tuck that bit of info away for future reference!

"you can do everything in them without looking silly"

I can't do anything without looking silly!

The good thing about synthetic saddles is how indestructible they are - obviously could still break the tree or whatever, but they don't scratch as tragically easily as leather.

What can I say? She's seen it....

My question is what does one do about girth and stirrup leathers? Obviously with baby blue saddle, brown leather is going to look weird.

(sorry again for hijack!)

I'm sure if you google you can find some baby blue leathers Grin otherwise I'd just stick with brown or black. Girths come in all sorts of colours these days!

Says here they come with a pair of coloured leathers.

Ohh the site I saw didn't say that - I knew MN was the best place to ask Grin

(She has a leather saddle she can use for shows and stuff anyway - it's old but serviceable iyswim?)

we've got a bright turquoise leather bridle, teeny tiny sec A sort of size, which would clash beautifully if you are interested? Brand new, I don't know where it came from but we had an A on loan a couple of years ago
