I'm striking because my Union has decided to, and what the hell am I in a union for if not to join together.

Exactly. Why anyone would decide to be in a union they don't support is beyond me.

Completely baffled by turnout as well when we're facing the biggest ever threat to our terms and conditions plus a huge recruitment and retention crisis.

We were advised more than 2 months ago that a strike would be in the first week in.July - I moved a class trip for that very reason.

Yeah I'm not feeling it, I'm politically maxed out and is there even anyone there listening to strike action now? Considering the imminent cabinet reshuffle who knows ho will be education secretary, Gove could be fucking PM and put any wildcard in there!

I'm going to be the be the only teacher in my school striking. I will have the support of the HT although support staff will be very unsympathetic (special school).

'Politically maxed out'!? What does that mean? Politics isn't something that just happens sometimes.

The threat of academisation is STILL THERE

The country has just voted to leave the EU and the Prime Minister has resigned. Politicians are going to be massively busy with the implications of that, and negotiations with teachers are highly unlikely to be a priority. I've already seen suggested that the national funding formula won't be sorted in time for September and that schools may not even know how much to pay their teachers till December.
Teachers going on strike asking for a pay rise (among other things) will be unpopular with the public with a recession looming.

And things like the more unpopular White Paper suggestions may be dropped with someone new in charge (most think Nicky's time as Education Secretary is coming to a close).

Nicky is very unlikely to be PM as she was an active Remain campaigner, so not the person to negotiate to Leave.

Gove or Boris are far more likely for PM and if so, we will probably have more, but different things to be striking over (selective education?).

I think if teachers strike now, the public will say 'what the fuck are they doing? Have they seen what's going on in the rest of the country and they're thinking about their pay??' A wait and see approach would be much more sensible at this particular time.

But I'm not NUT, so wouldn't be striking anyway.

I cast my vote and had to smile yesterday at work as the non NUT members were supportive saying that a strike going ahead on that day would be good as no trips or anything planned that day so if the NUT members do strike no one else can cover the classes so will mean a day of being able to do stuff in school and getting paid. Remember last time when it happened the striking teachers also had to do what the no strikers did as soon as soon as we returned. Defeated the object of striking as double the amount of work. Shall see what happens this time around.

I voted in a strike ballot for the first time ever as I feel so strongly about the mess created in our schools by Gove, Morgan et al. As soon as the strike was announced on Thursday I texted my Head to tell her I will be striking - as far as I can tell, I will be the only person in living memory to have gone on strike at my school and I can't see any of my colleagues coming out so I will be a social leper. That's OK - I can take it. But since the referendum result, I really can't see what the strike is going to achieve as the Government and media have so much else on at the moment. Wouldn't it be better to postpone it until there is a new prime minster and cabinet in place? Then at least the people we are protesting to are the ones who will have the opportunity to take action (or not...) in response.

I voted for it and will take part, even if I'm the only one at my school who does. I'm currently signed off with stress-related illness. If anyone is evidence of why we need to strike, it's me!

If I was in the NUT I would certainly strike. It's a disgrace that the teaching unions can't join together to be more effective. We surely do need just one union to have any voice
