How hard is it to get ill health retirement?

My back is fucked beyond anything. Am in constant pain, and on really strong painkillers all the time. I'm waiting for an appointment at a pain clinic.
I just don't know how I can carry on teaching like this. All the specialists etc say it's to do with my job. It used to get better in the holidays at one point, but now it's shit all the time.

I can't afford to give up, but feel too spaced out on medication and in too much pain to carry on. So, is it even possible to get it these days? I'm 52

I believe it is almost impossible these days - but this sounds really bad. I think there would be more chance if whatever you have has a name - not just general back pain, because that's too vague.

I think being on the pain killers might be a clincher though - have you spoken to your union?

No I'll phone them on Monday. Just can't carry on like this.
