I'm not used to applying for new jobs, so not sure how it all works...

Deadline was this Wednesday (midday) with interviews next Wed/Thu. Do you think I would hear on Mon? I'm really hoping this job will be a possibility.

A few years ago, I was informed about an interview the night before. The headteacher called, because I hadn't confirmed my attendance. (I hadn't confirmed, because I hadn't received the invitation.) I was in a slight state of panic for most of the next morning. They'd been nice enough to move my teaching task to the afternoon and the actual interview to the day after.

I've also applied for a job on a Wednesday,...got informed about the interview on Thursday. Letter arrived on Friday. Interview was the Monday.
I guess it all depends on how much time there is between the closing date and the interview date.

You should probably hear by Monday. If you don't hear anything by Thursday, assume that you didn't get an interview at this point. (Did they not give you dates in their advert or application pack?)

Good luck, though. :)

I'll be honest with you - in my experience I've always been given the weekend as notice before an interview. I think schools do it this way as they know you need time to prepare, especially when you have to teach a lesson.

If it's a teaching job, for which the interview involves teaching, I'd have thought you'd have heard by now.

I've not heard of people being given only 2 days notice before an interview before.

However, if it's a support role or similar then it might be different.

I hope I'm wrong though and you do get an interview. Good luck :-)

Thanks for the replies.

Workingitout that was what I was worried about... I was thinking I might have heard today. It is a teaching post. I do know that the school had parents' evenings on Wed and Thu though, so things may have been fairly busy. Think I'll give it until Mon and then assume a 'No, thanks'.

We shortlist on the closing date, send a "save the date" email, and full details usually with 3 days notice. Not necessarily working days though...

Fairylights (love that name - has just reminded of a task to do today Grin) - do you mean you were give the details of the lesson you have to plan at that time, or were notified that you had an interview? Either way, how do HTs feel about having to get cover at short notice- do they always agree to time for for interviews? I suppose it is reciprocal if it is normal practice...
Fallen Madonna - how then is there time to get references? Do you take up the references of people as their apps come in - what happens if you get a great-sounding person who applies at the deadline - no time to get ref before shortlisting..?
I am an NQT , hence numpty questions - but not as bad as DH (not a teacher). When I mentioned I was anxious about booking supply days ahead in case I got an interview, he said, why not tell them you can't make it that day, will have to be another Grin.

We request references as soon as we shortlist. It is the details of the lesson etc that take longer to send out.
