Temporary contract- handing notice in?

I'm on a years temp contract At my school. I hate it and have no intention of staying. But what do I need to do? As it's temp. Do I need a letter of resignation or notice or do I just see it through? At my appraisal a few weeks ago, at the end, the head gingerly asked if I was enjoying it and a fleeting - 'you'll be staying then? Was asked. It was on the spot and I think I mumbled something about it being temporary so unsure..
What's the best thing to do?

I've been on temporary 1 year contracts and have not officially resigned or written anything.

Did you just go and see the ht and tell them you won't be staying? Is that all I'd need to do?

You have a contact? Your notice period will be on it. You will still have to give notice in writing I think

Do you mean you want to leave before the end of your contract? If so you will need to give notice as per your contract.

Otherwise the expectation will be that you are leaving - if you think they want you to stay it would be courteous to tell them that you won't be in time for them to replace you next year.
