Time off for interviews?

I am working in a school for the first time, on a fixed term contract running until August 2015. I haven't been told either way whether my contract is likely to be renewed, but the child I work with has an uncertain future in terms of funding.

I have applied for a uni course and have seen a job at another school starting in September. I was wondering what the deal is generally with having time off for interviews? Is it the done thing to be upfront with my current Head about asking for time off?

Yes - tell the head and they should be fine.

I was in a similar situation, I was covering a maternity leave and wasn't sure if I would be taken on pt or not. I was open and honest with my head, who was very supportive (even recommending me for jobs and helping with applications etc) Thankfully the Governors took me on pt but I think being honest with my intensional helped.
