Departmental Meltdown

We had an awful GCSE result and have been warned about possible repercussions for the department and the school being a core subject. Any ideas as to what this may mean? We are already a notice to improve school and whilst I had time off we had about 4 monitoring visits!

Thanks

Competency procedures?

Anyone else having time off? Is there a low level of staff esteem in the dept? That can easily happen with colleague's absences.

(I'm not judging)

Sorry, I meant that I've just returned from mat leave. Yes there's been a large staff turnover too.

It's extremely hard to get of teachers.

Can you put a plan of action together as a department? Showing you are proactive and moving forward as a team will be in your favour.

Can your department spend time in an department classed as 'excellent' by ofsted. Can you get an outside subject specialist in to trouble shoot.

HWhy have grades been so low. I understand that they are probably low throughout the school.

It is your school's job to support you in.improving not just punish you if you don't. As pp has said, you should contact an o outstanding department in another school for support. If you are in an area with teaching schools then ask for support through them (although these days the support is often not free). Make sure your line manager is on board with all the interventions you put in place. This will ensure your efforts at acknowledged and will hopefully also ensure they are successful! Good luck.
