The Summer Term Blues have hit!

Well, 2 days to go before term starts and the dread has kicked in. Another summer term of Y6 and Y2 Sats, Y1 phonics screen, reports, data, pupil progress meetings and targets, marking ...

I've posted recently about my plans to move. The school is lovely, but I'm done. Just need to motivate myself. It will all be fine I'm sure. Will plaster on the smile on Tuesday and find some enthusiasm from somewhere. and I'm SLT, I'm meant to motivate and inspire others!

I never used to feel like this. Any tips for enjoying the week ahead?

I feel your pain! Been trying to do my planning on and off all day. Let's just say I have done washing, cleaned the kitchen and am waiting for the dryer to finish, so that I can iron! That's how far away my mojo is!
Not helped by the fact that I'm on a fixed term contract that is up in august, so I have that all consuming feeling of "well, actually I don't care about September, because I won't be here" Every time they talk about the plans for next year every other sodding sentence

Aahh, yes the Mojo. I remember having a mojo. In fact, I can happily find my mojo for just about anything else. Good luck with the planning. Will be forcing myself to do it tomorrow, 2 hours tops. Leaving it until the last minute is the only way I will get myself going.

I feel exactly the same. Also a member of SLT.

It's just relentless pressure and self criticism.

I'm hoping I feel better once I'm back into it on Tuesday. Very seriously considering my options though, as this just doesn't make me happy anymore. sad

I have now ironed - and am contemplating hoovering, just so that I am not doing my planning!

Yy to the relentless pressure & criticism - sucks, doesn't it? confused

Also considering my options here, as I can't see myself continuing for much longer - never thought I'd say that after 25 years of teaching. sad

There must be something else.

For once I'm feeling vaguely motivated! I'm in year 6 and have currently got the funniest, most motivated, hard working class I've ever taught. This holiday I've actually missed their chatter and general niceness! I'm just at that point where whatever happens in SATs is going to happen and we've just got a few more weeks of solid work but also FUN.

Very aware this isn't the case in all schools, though, and it makes me angry and upset to hear of other teachers' misery. I did 3 years in a stress factory and was bullied to the point of mental break down.

Teaching can be the absolute best job or the utter worst.

Only 5 weeks until half term and 2 of those weeks are 4 day weeks. Not that I'm counting.

I had a feeling that I would not be the only one!

Ironing and cleaning done. I even ironed my son's school polo shirts which I never do.

Tearoom once I'm through the door on Tuesday, it will be smile switched on etc and time will fly. But yes, the constant pressure for data to improve term on term, year on year. Where does it stop? What do you think you will do?

Animal enjoy the weeks post Sats. You and the children really do deserve a good end to the year.

Machakos a short half term will be lovely. I never used to do the counting thing until the last week though...

I'm trying really hard to think of positives. Good kids, some lovely colleagues (some not so!), no Ofsted looming, brighter mornings, lighter evenings. Any more positives?

Oh yes! Glad I'm not the only one cleaning the oven as a displacement activity grin

KinkyDorito Mon 21-Apr-14 10:30:28

Gah.

That is all.

lilachickory Mon 21-Apr-14 12:18:54

I've properly got "the fear" and the need for a displacement activity. I was wondering why reading a review of cagoules suddenly seemed really interesting and important...

Sod it! The sun is shining where I am. The crap can wait.

Finola I'm with you. Garden it is grin.
