Getting signed off with stress

I'm at breaking point at school. I just can't do this job any more. I need some time away. I think I'm going to have to go off with stress. I spent all day in tears today and have been told not to come in tomorrow.
I just wondered if anyone else has had to go off with stress. I'm worried it will stay on record and be held against me further down the line? Do new employers ask for this sort of info?

First of all I'm sorry you're feeling this way. My husband had a month off of work for stress that had started giving him migraines. He's back at work and things seem alright at the moment. I don't think any new employers could ask about that sort of thing? Hopefully someone with more info will come along.

Feeling very similar myself. Very nearly walked out of my classroom this afternoon and have been in tears tonight. Hope someone comes back with some info/advice.
I used to love teaching!

Cnix, I'm sorry you are feeling like this.I have felt like this, many, many times but haven't actually been off for stress. It is awful when you feel like crying all of the time.It does sound like you near some time away from the classroom.

My DH has decided to become a TA due to the stress of being a classroom teacher. Wasn't actually signed off with stress but may have been if he had stayed. He likes working with the children ad used to love teaching too. He says the job has become unrecognisable now from how it was when he became a teacher 15 years ago. No support from senior management with behavour, crushing bureaucracy, targets, scrutiny, constant observations etc....good luck to you - you need to get out too.

Thanks for your replies. I feel angry as well as stressed I used to live my job and thought I was pretty good at it but there is no joy to be had any more. They just keep piling more and more stuff on you without taking anything away. The detail that's expected when marking work now is just unbelievable. Students are meant to have a dialogue with us I their books and respond to targets. Bottom year 9? Forget it! I like the idea of becoming a ta. Only I would have to wait a couple of years until my lo starts school as I couldn't afford to put her in nursery. I'd be working for nothing. I am at home today trying to get my head together. But keep thinking of the marking that will be piling up when I'm not at school.
