Dear mumsnetters,

I am applying for jobs and am slightly stumped! What is the difference between these two numbers? I have my GTC number on my purple card and so that is fine but where might I find my DfES number? Does it mean for the school?
Many thanks:)

DfE number relates to the school.

I have a DFES number which is the number I for when I qualified. I am old, so not sure if they give this to teachers now. Could it be an either/or situation? Or put whichever you have?

Pretty sure they are the same thing. Think DFES was the 'old name' for it.

The dfes number is not the same as the school dfe number. The dfes number was issued when you started training and would look like this eg 75/4567
The first 2 digits are the year in which you commenced your teacher training hence mine starts 75/
Dont know if it still is the case though.

It's on my payslip, and on my P60s and P45s.
It's the personal number that you have for the rest of your teaching career, linking with your tax and pension.
Mine is 7 digits, with the first two being the year I qualified. /*

Oh, I'm reeeealy old too, so perhaps it has ceased to exist for newcomers. But how do they track you from job to job if that's the case?
