I know they don't in the US, but what about over here?

Teachers do, but teaching assistants don't.

Teachers get a yearly salary divided into 12 monthly payments, so yes they get paid during the holidays.

Our salary is based on getting paid term time only but our actual pay is split into 12 equal amounts so we get paid each month throughout the year.

TAs get the same pay arrangement as teachers in my lea.

Yes. Unless perhaps you have just finished a temporary contract, but even then you will have built up some holiday entitlement.

we get paid in the holidays but not for the holidays iyswim.

We are only paid for the days worked during term time but that pay is spread out over the year so that there is a monthly income.

We get paid for 1265 hours over 195 days (ie. term time + INSET days) but in 12 chunks, one per calendar month.

Supply teachers get their annual salary/195 for each day worked.

TAs get the same pay arrangement as teachers here too.

Teachers aren't paid for the holidays but they do receive money during them as pay from the others months of the year are split into 12 equal payments.

No, we're not paid FOR the holidays but our pay is divided into 12 chunks and paid monthly. We're one of the only jobs WITHOUT paid holiday entitlement!!

We have the same holiday entitlement as anyone else. It's just that when the law was applied to teaching it didn't change anything. It was a paper exercise only.

Are you sure about this? Only our union rep explained it to us the other day as we're currently looking at the teacher's pay and conditions document? Can you recommend anywhere online lays our holiday entitlement out for us to read (in simple terms!!)? :)

Holiday allowance is accounted for within the pay grade so you'll be at something like 86% of what you'd make if you worked full time though the year with 20 - 25 days off.

Not meaning you earn pro rata of course

I'm on a temporary contract through an agency. I get paid per hour and a % of that is holiday pay.

If teachers are on a yearly salary divided into 12 equal payments then how can I, on a fixed-term contract covering a maternity leave, not be paid for the summer holiday when the teacher I'm covering returns (potentially 2 days or so before the summer break!)? I will have worked the full year of teaching but will not receive my pay entitlement if my pay has been split into 12 equal months and I only get 10 of them!?

I don't get this. Teachers are paid a yearly salary aren't they, they are not paid by the hour, or week? So how can anyone say they are paid a statutary minimum for the holidays?

Interesting.
I work supply.
DH has been trying to get me to go full time in a teaching job as he says I am missing out on holiday pay, as obviously have no work in the school hols.
The agency daily rate includes 'holiday pay' and I assumed this was just the bank hols that any agency worker in any field would get .
But perhaps includes the 5.6 weeks..? If so, I have an argument to counteract DH.
Need to investigate.....
