tbh i knew next to nothing about the woman until last night and cared even less. but honestly she hung around for 8 years doing nothing useful with her life apart from waiting for some fecking man to pop the questiong. what a loser.

That's a bit harsh Cereal. Lots of people live together and don't get married. I know it is expected from William but why should they have to get married.

She has been working and doing charity work so I doubt very much that she's been sat on her arse doing nothing for 8 years.

Your comment is quite offensive.

from the coverage last night, it did appear that she has done nothing much since graduating. there was a brief flurry of activity when he dumped her, which involved wearing a sparkly dress and joining a rowing club.

nothing , just like the previous 9 years. "working" ?Hmm - not by most peoples's standards. Not exactly a great role model any more than "career politicians" are .

See, I read something yesterday that described her as a photographer. Who knew? Maybe she's been quietly building up her own business and if William had dumped her, she'd have focussed on that instead. Although she's been living in Anglesey with William (where he's based as a pilot) so maybe she's been limited in her career options. (We have family in Anglesey, it's cold all year round and packed full of pensioners, the fact she was prepared to go live there with him must be all the proof needed she's committed to him)

Also, we're all rather assuming she's been waiting for him to ask, there's a very good chance she's been the one stalling until she was ready to start a family, in order to keep her quiet* life.

*Quiet in comparrassion to the storm the press will unleash now she's officially "public property" - i'd want to avoid that for as long as I could too....

I find it quite offensive too tbh, i was with DH for 8 years before we got engaged. Some of that time i was working, some i wasn't.
To be with him meant going with him to various countries where i wasn't allowed to work (permits, etc), rather like her moving to Anglesey where work options must be pretty limited i should think.

The time wasn't right for us to get married until we did, so i can empathise with that comment.

And as FPT said, i'm sure there must have been (still is?) some serious hesitation on her part, i mean really if you're honest, who actually wants to join the Royal Family circus?
There was definitely some hesitation on my part and DH isn't a prince (of that sort anyway Grin).

ffs he has only been on anglesey for 6 months what about the other 8 years!

I was 8 years 'waiting' for DH to propose.
Both of us waiting for the right time.
In our case we had to save up for the wedding. That's unlikely to be their issue, though.

But then again, who would have employed her? You'd constantly be wondering if a customer or application for a job was real under an undercover pap. Your workplace would be under constant surveillance, and all your other employees being approached and afraid to open their mouths in case they end up been quoted as ?a close friend?
At least now she can take on some charity roles etc

Well, Diana met, got engaged, got married and had children very quickly. May be they've taken their time to avoid a mess like his parents.

She'd have married one of his mates, of course. I remember reading somewhere that lots of them were interested in her because (apart from her obvious personal qualities such as looks and rich parents) there is a big cachet to going out with a Prince's ex-girlfriend.

I can think of lots of women in the public eye who I'd consider to be more 'losers' than Kate Middleton.

I also like the way everyone has jumped to the conclusion that she must have been desperate to get married and he wasn't. Maybe they both wanted to wait till they were older?

What's with this 'kate middleclass' too? Is it a crime now?

Didn't the Queen have a go at her at one stage for not being employed? As far as I'm aware, she's a photographer in the sense that she takes photos of stuff for her parents website.

The Queen is awesome.

I was "hanging around waiting" for six years before my now DH proposed.

During that time I worked and supported myself and 3 DCs.

OKay so she doesnt have DCs but I don't suppose being linked to THAT Family has been a walk in the park.

If she had been emptying bins or working in Tesco we would have slagged her off so she was on a hiding to nothig from the outset. There aren't actually a lot of jobs that she could do whilst still trying to deal with the Royals.

She was a photographer, she did all the photographing of stuff for her parents website.

Fed up with all the fuss to be honest but I think we need to stop the Kate bashing.

She did try to start a career - worked as a buyer for jigsaw - but basically the press hounded her hanging outside her house and offices each day and i think there was even a safety incident or something. Must have been shit for co-workers, let alone Kate, and always the danger a co-worker would sell some story about her. So as I understood it she then went to work for her parents' company because it's run from home so she could be a bit more private and protected. I don't know how you could have a career in those circumstances really. Diana had a job, but before she became Charles' girlfriend - and then she got hounded. I think there was a very short time between her becoming known and getting engaged whereas Kate was known about for 8 years.

I feel sorry for her - bright girl, probably wanted a career but happened to fall in love with a prince which screwed any chance of normal life up. And then everyone judges her for not having worked when we don't have a clue what life must have been like. I don't think we can judge her work ethic until we see whether she becomes a Diana/Princess Anne type doing loads for charity or just sits around doing nothing.

Of course it's a crime to be 'middleclass', Kate or not, under which rock have you been hiding, comrade?Hmm

Her Mother has the children's party catalogue, can't remember the exact name and her face is in the one for 1st birthday parties. So I assumed that was what she did.

How do we know she has done nothing? She appears to be quite a private person, just because she doesn't do anything high profile doesn't mean she does nothing at all. We didn't even know what she sounded like until yesterday, let alone what she does all day?

Fimbo · 17/11/2010 09:57

Its called partypieces and she did work for them.
