Our new kitten is arriving tonight fsmile. She's a late, semi-Christmas present for our DSs as our much loved cat died in the summer and they still miss him loads. She's a rescue kitten, small, fluffy and jet black. I quite fancy a witchy name but after naming 3 children my naming powers have abandoned me. Please help, fellow cat lovers of mumsnet or else I'll be forced to let the DSs name her and I really don't want to saddle the poor thing with a name like Steven Gerrard fhmm

Midnight?

Ooh, how exciting. My baby us now nearly 18 weeks and he is also a little black fluffy ball. My son named ours Felix and he does look like a Felix. Little witchy name you say? Hmmm... How about Zelda? I'll put on my thinking cap smile

Sparkling I was going to sound the KittenKlaxon especially for you (maybe in the manner of ThunderCats?) DH and are I are thoroughly over excited but can't decide on a name. I like Luna but he doesn't angry. Lots of great ideas here so I'll see what he thinks. Will try and work out how to post photos technophobe

Treacle

What time is it kitten o'clock?

BettyMacdonald Thu 26-Dec-13 19:26:22

Tabitha was the name of another dearly departed cat sad. If I'd ever had a DD then it was top of my list. She was lovely. Little nameless kitten is arriving about 8.30pm - well after the boys are asleep so DH and I get a chance to bond first selfish

Scarletohello Thu 26-Dec-13 19:27:21

I had a black fluffy kitten years ago we called it Topsy ( don't think that's pc now tho...)

Methe Thu 26-Dec-13 19:42:28

Salem

Bellatrix
Dolores

Sootica was the sister of "Gobbolino the witch's cat" in the book of that name

I like Coco for a black kitten

There is a whole page of names for black cats here - Sabrina stood out for me from that list

Weegiemum Thu 26-Dec-13 20:56:16

We recently got a jet black boy kitten (he belongs to dd2) and he's been named Severus (as in Snape, from Harry Potter).

Dd2 suggests (in the same vein) Minerva (as in McGonnagall) or Hermione, or Luna.

timtam23 Thu 26-Dec-13 20:58:41

Another list

Shadow is a nice name from that list, not sure about "Death", or "Tarmac" though!

Margene Thu 26-Dec-13 20:58:54

I like Sootica too.

Tiptops Thu 26-Dec-13 20:59:33

Minstrel?

pickledsiblings Thu 26-Dec-13 22:18:57

How about Talitha, nn Tali, similar to Tabitha but not the same.

Beeksy Thu 26-Dec-13 22:36:57

Saphire What's good about this name is that it describes the regal way a cat feels and behaves without sounding remotely human. My goldfish is called Steve because he eats like a builder. You want something that fits

lookatmybutt Fri 27-Dec-13 00:18:51

How about Serafina as in His Dark Materials? She's pretty cool.

pieinthesky123 Fri 27-Dec-13 22:11:34

Mischief or Magic.

Snowflake.

Miss Kitty Fantastico, Drama for short (Buffy reference).

Jennet Demdike (Lancashire witch reference) also Alizon, Alice, Elizabeth, Margaret

Pendle - home of witches

Weegiemum we used to call one of the strays Snape

We are of the firm belief that given a few days, cats name themselves. You'll know by New Year what is an appropriate name!

MrsSchadenfreude Sun 29-Dec-13 22:33:23

Clawdine. grin

CatOfTheDay Sun 29-Dec-13 23:12:16

Our black fluffy kitten is Luna - it suits her as she's a complete lunatic! grin

BettyMacdonald Sun 29-Dec-13 23:12:42

Thank you so much for all your brilliant suggestions! I had planned on calling her Luna or Juno, possibly Callisto (although traditionally a boys name) but nn Callie.

However, and as accurately pointed out by moonbells, cats do tend to name themselves and she now has the supremely occult name of...... Daisy hmmblush. It does not suit her at all as she's a very, shall we say confident kitten who is not in the least bit fazed by our 3 DSs and is not averse to leaping out and savaging your ankle. That said, it seems to be her name iyswim. She is super cute and very affectionate and although tiny, already has a massive character. I promise ( Sparkling ) to try and sort a photo ASAP grin

BettyMacdonald Sun 29-Dec-13 23:13:41

X post Cat - how funny! I love the name Luna grin

CatOfTheDay Sun 29-Dec-13 23:31:18

Luna's getting a bit common now though it seems! Although DP calls her Tuna, and she answers to either!
