He collapsed this evening and can't stand up properly we've just called the vet n they want him brought in immediately I can't go LO in bed I'm beside myself

out2lunch Wed 23-Oct-13 19:16:35

the vet came out for my cat - will they not do this?

hope everything is ok x

cozietoesie Wed 23-Oct-13 19:40:47

Oh my. Have you no one you can call to help or to look after LO?

theboutiquemummy Wed 23-Oct-13 19:49:14

We live in the sticks it cuts down travelling time if we meet them at the surgery because she has to travel in

My family are ages away hmm

hugoagogo Wed 23-Oct-13 19:53:35

Will a taxi take the cat to the vet? (in his travel box obviously)

out2lunch Wed 23-Oct-13 19:55:35

yy he needs to get to the vet somehow.must be awful for you. no neighbour to sit in with dd?

cozietoesie Wed 23-Oct-13 20:07:37

Get a taxi and take LO with you then. (Unless you can raise a neighbour who would sit.) I've never had a refusal from a taxi to take a cat in its box. You need to get hm vet attention in some way.

Fluffycloudland77 Wed 23-Oct-13 20:34:38

Did you get it sorted?

issey6cats Wed 23-Oct-13 20:38:58

hoping you and cat ok

timtam23 Wed 23-Oct-13 20:56:36

theboutiquemummy Wed 23-Oct-13 22:08:57

They think he's twisted his spine he's been given pain killers so he can rest

out2lunch Wed 23-Oct-13 22:11:19

hope he gets better soon xx

cozietoesie Wed 23-Oct-13 22:23:02

Poor lad. Did they keep him in?

CanucksoontobeinLondon Thu 24-Oct-13 03:18:44

I really hope he's going to be okay. Sending good thoughts your way.

DidoTheDodo Thu 24-Oct-13 11:09:19

How is he now?

theboutiquemummy Thu 24-Oct-13 19:44:16

Just a quick update he has responded to the medication so he's allowed to come home n rest he is currently snuggled up warm by the fire he's not himself but at least he's home n he's tried to eat some of his tuna

Thank you for last night he like family to us

cozietoesie Thu 24-Oct-13 19:45:20

Glad he's better. Is he to see the vet again soon?

hugoagogo Thu 24-Oct-13 19:55:42

I am pleased to hear he is doing a bit better.

DulcetMoans Thu 24-Oct-13 20:36:47

Oh so pleased to hear hes come home. I came to this thread a bit late but happy to see a positive outcome. Cuddle him lots - but gently!

out2lunch Fri 25-Oct-13 00:25:17

good news xx

theboutiquemummy Fri 25-Oct-13 11:24:33

We have to go back to the vet on Monday but he's eaten again this morning he's mewing but still no purring yet hmm

cozietoesie Fri 25-Oct-13 12:36:50

That doesn't sound too bad. I wouldn't worry about the lack of pleasure purr - even if he's a purry cat (and not all are) he may just not be feeling quite top notch enough to purr.

DidoTheDodo Sat 26-Oct-13 15:14:56

Continuing catty-vibes for your cat (And you too, of course!). Hope he's soon feeling much more like himself.

theboutiquemummy Tue 29-Oct-13 08:50:17

He's fussed for food this morning and eaten all of it but he's still not right back to the vets again on Thursday morning

He's also poked noses with the dog which is a good sign

How's everyone else doing

cozietoesie Tue 29-Oct-13 09:54:35

So improving still ?

theboutiquemummy Mon 04-Nov-13 15:56:36

Hi cozie took him back today he's lost more weight is dehydrated so they've kept him in

He peed on the carpet and never does that hmmhmm

cozietoesie Mon 04-Nov-13 16:07:15

Not so good then. sad I can't remember if you said - but how old is he?

out2lunch Mon 04-Nov-13 16:10:03

theboutiquemummy Mon 04-Nov-13 19:39:20

He's 8 they have called n said his red blood cell count is high but they still have no idea so scared for him

toffeelolly Wed 06-Nov-13 10:47:10

Good luck, hope all is good.

cozietoesie Wed 06-Nov-13 10:59:17

Let us know when you get some results from the vet?

theboutiquemummy Fri 08-Nov-13 15:58:35

They transferred him to Dick Whites in Cambridge for his tested and he's got a massive brain tumour we are devastated they will operate if we want them to but they think its best PTS hmm

Lovethesea Fri 08-Nov-13 17:56:13

So sorry to hear your news.

Fluffycloudland77 Fri 08-Nov-13 21:05:12

Do you want to pts though?

Such a blow to you.

cozietoesie Fri 08-Nov-13 21:10:39

Hellish result. I'm so sorry for him.

cozietoesie Fri 08-Nov-13 21:13:28

There are some great cats waiting to welcome him though. (On the other side.)

TheNunsOfGavarone Fri 08-Nov-13 21:44:50

So sorry to hear the news, that's devastating for you.

timtam23 Fri 08-Nov-13 22:31:24

wetaugust Sat 09-Nov-13 15:21:19

So sorry to hear about your cat xxx

theboutiquemummy Sat 09-Nov-13 19:02:23

Thank you I'm wandering around like a wet weekend can't stop crying I feel like I haven't fought enough for him like I've just given up n said oh tumour that's it then definitely rubbish at this sort of thing

cozietoesie Sat 09-Nov-13 19:06:18

Not so. The specialist vets have said that they would recommend that they end it for him?

Doing that is the kindest thing you can do for him - let him go before it hurts.

cozietoesie Sat 09-Nov-13 19:12:20

I should add - my gran died of a brain tumour. I was with her in the last days (and when she died) and I would have slipped her a dose if I could have.

Remember the good times.

Mignonette Sat 09-Nov-13 19:44:25

There was nothing to be fought Theboutique. Animals don't understand that kind of thinking. When they are ill they are all instinct and feel vulnerable to attack. In the Wild they would crawl off and hide from predators. You can't 'fight' cancer-you recover or you do not and it is arbitrary. If the will to live and the will to keep somebody or something alive was true then no children would die from it.

You saved your pet from a long drawn out and undignified death my love. It is natural that you will constantly ruminate over what you might have done or not done. This is a part of the process of understanding what has happened. It is awful and painful and confusing. I remember wandering about in a fug, a trance, unable to believe my cat was dead and embarrassed to talk of how I felt in case people thought I was being over dramatic.

You have my heartfelt condolences. These little creatures break our hearts when they die. flowers

out2lunch Sat 09-Nov-13 19:47:38

oh no sad news xx sending a hug

Fluffycloudland77 Sat 09-Nov-13 19:57:28

I think if the vet thought the op would work they would give it a shot.

Do you have someone who can drive you home after? You probably won't be able to do it yourself.

boumummy Sun 10-Nov-13 21:49:35

my little mans gone they let me hold him on his favourite blanket and stroke his head it was very quick

thank you for your hugs and kinds words this is the first time we have ever had to pts and it was the right decision they showed us the scans it just made me love him more because he'd managed to carry on normally for so long being so poorly

we've got him with us tonight and then we are going to take him tomorrow to the pet crematorium

have uploaded a pic and changed my username in his honour

out2lunch Sun 10-Nov-13 21:53:16

Cybercat Sun 10-Nov-13 21:54:13

Im so so sorry. We have lost two of our cats this year and another is currently poorly so I can understand how you are feeling. You did right by him.

TheNunsOfGavarone Sun 10-Nov-13 22:00:43

Boumummy, I'm so sorry. Yes, it sounds like the right decision to let him go, but so heart-breaking for you.

Hugs to you and your family.

out2lunch Mon 11-Nov-13 19:16:28

would like to see the pic but you need to make profile public x

Lovethesea Mon 11-Nov-13 19:24:31

Again so sorry for your loss but so pleased he gained a peaceful passing without fear or pain. You and the vets gave him a great gift there. A happy life and a happy death.

bumbumsmummy Wed 20-Nov-13 10:00:27

Oh Cozie so sorry to hear that but you are right
