What is your cat called?

Just being nosy really and looking for inspiration

Does the name you've chosen suit him/her because of looks/personality or is it so inappropriate as to be ironic?

Also, does anyone give their pedigree cat a ridiculous moniker (a la Crufts), then a 'normal' nickname or is that just for dogs?

CharlieUniformNovemberTango Tue 14-May-13 11:56:21

My cat is Bob.

He came with the name but we were happy to keep it. He is long haired and it does kind of suit his scruffyness!

OrmirianResurgam Tue 14-May-13 11:58:19

Currently two black toms called Dwalin and Spider, and a tortoiseshell queen called Fat Cat.

We lost our little black queen last year -she was called Lola.

BestestBrownies Tue 14-May-13 12:02:06

Thanks Charlie and Ormi. I've never heard the name Dwalin before - how do you pronounce it? Love 'Bob' and 'Fat Cat'.

OrmirianResurgam Tue 14-May-13 12:05:47

It's from the Hobbit (and we named it BEFORE the film came out grin). I used to think it was pronounced Dwaylin, but in the file it was Dwahlin so I bow to their superior judgement.

BadRoly Tue 14-May-13 12:06:32

Currently we have Bert and Stella. Previously we have had Betty, Claudia and Smudge. We have only named 2/5 of them. The other 3 were rescues who already had names.

We have Frazer - came with the name from the rescue place and we liked it. In retrospect, should have called him Toothless - he both looks and behaves like the dragon in 'How to tame your dragon'!

tabulahrasa Tue 14-May-13 12:11:00

People don't give dogs ridiculous names just because you know, lol...to register a puppy with the Kennel Club it has to have a unique name within that breed - if you just put down what you actually wanted to call it there'd be loads of other Rovers or Spots or whatever, so you combine words to make something that they will allow, and then just call it what you were going to call it.

I'm pretty sure the same is true of The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy.

So yes, the breeder gives it a name and then the owner calls it something else.

juneybean Tue 14-May-13 12:11:07

I have a Bob and a Juney.

Juney was born in June...

Bob was Juney's first born and I named the kittens as they came out and then his name just stuck.

Eponine Spa
I'm looking for a new kitten atm and she will be Jemima Silverstone.
My last cat was Theo Monaco.

I'm an saddo F1 fangrin

D0oinMeCleanin Tue 14-May-13 12:15:43

My cat's full name is "Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the TRUE emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next" but we just call him Max most of the time grin

karinmaria Tue 14-May-13 12:19:14

Hero. She was named as a kitten by my hubby's then gf and it suits her!

My dad's cat is Teddy. He's a huge longhaired ginger and is as cuddly as a cuddly toy so the name is very apt.

BestestBrownies Tue 14-May-13 12:33:27

Oh wow! These are great! And so much better than any I could have come up with on my own. My imagination is a tad rusty I think...

tabulah are you winding me up or does The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy really exist?

Dwalin is growing on me I have to say. I like Betty, Bert Fraser and Smudge as well though, and I can totally picture Teddy the cuddly long-haired ginger.

Netto and D0oin those names are brilliant grin

Right, am off to google the Cat Fanciers.....

BestestBrownies Tue 14-May-13 12:34:25

OMG it's real! shock

Elsa - mostly known as Princess
Tessa/Tessie - almost always called Evil but occasionally answers to Fattie/Fatcat
Polly - mostly called Stupid or 'Get off my fucking houseplants you little shit!'

Ninja - an all black male who is exactly like his namesake, I something think we should have named him something different!

Ihavenoidea Tue 14-May-13 12:46:49

As an adult, I have only ever had nameless strays so get to name them myself. I like names that have suitable meanings or fit the rescue siutation, so currently have a Dougal (which means 'dark stranger', and he was found straying by the CPL, and is black) and a Folly (found on Folly Hill Road, eating roadkill and in terrible shape). We used to have Diggory, which means 'wanderer' - we think he arrived in the back of a house clearance van visiting a nearby auction house as no-one had any record of him being lost.

As a child, our cats were called after historical or folklore figures, and we had Admiral Horatio Lord Nelson (Horace), Emma Lady Hamilton (Emmie), Napoleon Bonaparte (Poly), Empress Josephine (Jojo), Caligula (Boots), Mephistopheles (Toffee) and Quintus Curtius Rufus (Rufus).

BestestBrownies Tue 14-May-13 12:50:06

I'm not being disparaging btw. Just genuinely shock that I've reached the ripe old age of 35 having absolutely no idea that pedigree cats are 'shown' just like dogs. Mumsnet is indeed a daily education.

Ha ha ha Purple grin

Oooh, Ninja is a great name for an all-black khalee

Melissakitkat Tue 14-May-13 12:52:46

Our daughter names most of our cats - we have:
Travis (was Toby but dh changed his name as did not like it)
Mummy cat (she had kittens hence the name)
Treacle (tortoiseshell cat)
Twinkle (black cat)
Jasper (although she is a girl)
Kitten (poor thing never really got a proper name)
Buster sparkle
Generic (he was our third black cat and they all look the same hence generic)
Diamond jubilee
Gizmo (the fattest cat ever)
Spike (who was the size of a dog!)
Kitkat (our old dear lived to over 20)

Some are no longer with us but all remembered fondly :0)

Lonecatwithkitten Tue 14-May-13 12:53:00

I have had many cats, but my best name was for a great big gorgeous cream boy who had many years on the streets prior to living with me - Mr Holland he was always know by his full name.

BestestBrownies Tue 14-May-13 12:53:02

Those are fab Ihave. Love the historical namesakes and nicknames, especially Toffee for Mephistopheles.

tabulahrasa Tue 14-May-13 12:53:21

Rofl - it does sound like a made up name to be fair though.

I know somebody that shows cats, they seem to enjoy it - I don't think mine would though, they're not exactly open to new experiences my cats.

ben5 Tue 14-May-13 12:57:23

bubbles is our short hair domestic cat and I swear he has only bubbles between his ears.!!!! but he is very loving!!
Tiger is our long hair domestic cat.

BestestBrownies Tue 14-May-13 12:57:57

I really like Treacle and Gizmo from your list Mel and LOVE Mummy Cat and Kitten.

Mr Holland sounds like he was a very proud, dignified sort Lonecat smile

It's great fun imagining what the cats with these names are like!

BestestBrownies Tue 14-May-13 13:02:49

Well exactly tabula. IME, the cats I've known don't really like to sit/lie still or erm... perform the way dogs do. That's why I never even imagined there were such things as cat shows. Still sitting here like this shock after browsing the GCCF website.

Aaaaah, poor Bubbles ben5 [grin[

Doodledumdums Tue 14-May-13 13:09:23

We have a moggie called Rocky, so called because he has two extra toes on each foot, and looks like he is wearing boxing gloves!

We also have a siamese called 'Princess Mei-Mei of Siam'... Though mostly she gets called Poppy?!

saycheeeeeese Tue 14-May-13 13:09:35

She is penny but I love the musical cats so she gets that!

And Bella, as in Belladonna the song by Stevie Nicks.

ArtemisKelda Tue 14-May-13 13:13:45

I have Larry, Eric and Frank. Eric and Frank were already named when we got them, Larry was one of 3 kittens, the other 2 were Curly and Moe.

tabulahrasa Tue 14-May-13 13:20:01

Oh I don't think they have to do anything, just sit there in their pen looking pretty, cats are exceptionally good at sitting there looking pretty... Judges examine them and declare which is the prettiest.

Though making them walk round a ring might be good for amusement value? Lol

Helpnoidea Tue 14-May-13 13:25:25

We had two sets of brother and sister (sadly we lost one of the brothers) named:
Moe and Curley
Stan and Olly
Can you see a theme developing?
We've also got an adoptee called Joe who matches quite nicely
Enjoy choosing some interesting names but just bear in mind that you may have to stand outside and yell it at some point in the future......!

Kewcumber Tue 14-May-13 13:27:47

Magnus and Cleo brother and sister - no idea why it just suited them

piratecat Tue 14-May-13 13:31:37

ours has the surname of one of Take That. sigh.

dd's bloody crush gets everywhere.

she says we need four more cats, or is it 3 now??!

tribpot Tue 14-May-13 13:33:51

Harry Potter. Even though she's a girl. This was ds' choice; we (and the cat) had no say in the matter.

Essexgirlupnorth Tue 14-May-13 13:45:14

I have Seren (star in Welsh) who is tabby and white and Arwen who is tortie. Told by the vet they had posh names.
Seen to spend my life shouting Arwen, no!

I have a Sam. Found as a stray trapped in a cavity wall and rescued buy the fire brigade , hence ( fireman) Sam

The other cat was a rescue too. Did intend on getting a cat, but he was on death row and I knew I could offer him a good temporary home until I could rehome him properly. Couldn't think of a name but I have a terrible habit of talking to animals in a silly voice and making up words

While we were trying to think of a name that suited him I kept using pusskins, like "hello little pusskins pussy cat" , and it stuck so he is me pusskins the pussy cat

issey6cats Tue 14-May-13 14:04:17

i have Jasper hes a tuxedo so thought good name for a tux

JO Jo his sister went to get one kit ended up with two so her name went with her brothers

Biscuit big ginger and white long hair the day i brought him home from the rescue my ex husband said he smells of biscuits hence his name

Blue half siamese he was Dom at rescue and he has blue eyes and ex is everton fan so he got his name that way

Wander is hound and she was called this by the rescue in cyprus and i liked it so kept it

Smellslikecatspee Tue 14-May-13 14:05:17

Today, one of them is called 'Quit that, get down from there'

the other one one is 'Stop winding him up. Stop it'

Sadly they not kittens just like ignoring me. . .
Aka William and Belinda. . Long not intresting or funny story

Maisy, she is a rescue, we changed her name from Sienna because it sounded a bit bizarre with our surname. She suits it.

Growing up my cats were Abby and Lucy. DH had cats called Flapjack and Moses.

CMOTDibbler Tue 14-May-13 14:53:52

Mine have all been named for famous physicists. It would out me far too easily to name them, but it all started with Schrodinger grin

QOD Tue 14-May-13 15:00:22

Rover, Mutley, Dougal and Scooby Doo

Rover was a boy, the rest girls

Mother2many Tue 14-May-13 15:03:49

Mittens: because her feet look like she's wearing them. We often call her Bratcat.

Butter(ball): I use to have a cat named Peanut, and I enjoyed calling for PeanutButter...

Snowgirl1 Tue 14-May-13 15:04:01

Sporran, Sprockett and Josey

allmycats Tue 14-May-13 15:06:54

Have had - Sooty, KitKat,Tiggi,Marvin and Hepcat - now I only have Molly.

TSSDNCOP Tue 14-May-13 15:06:56

I have Jinx (jet black) and Lulabella (Princess of Catworld IHO)

GingerPCatt Tue 14-May-13 15:07:15

Ginger for obvious reasons. Grindel who is a monster to the local wildlife, but he loves his mummy. smile And catamunda, shorten to moondie or moo.
Growing up we had a b&w tuxedo who had a dapper white mustache called General Spicer since he reminded my mum of a general she knew as a child (grandad was in the Air Force).

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 15:09:14

Agent J and Agent K.

They are nearly identical twin sister and brother and they do look like they are wearing Men in Black suits.

FruitOwl Tue 14-May-13 15:26:06

When I was a teenager my best mate's parents had about 10 cats and one of them was called Motherfucker (Mofo for short) shock hmm grin

We had the rather less exotic Bilbo Baggins and Bramwell Brown.

Frettchen Tue 14-May-13 15:33:27

My cats have always have flower names (I know, I know, judge away... I started the trend when I was a kid and never managed to break out of it!)

Cats I've had, and lost are;
Rosie - black and white; the cat who started it all. She lived until she was 16, and was the sweetest thing, albeit incredibly timid and quite fussy with who she'd deign to be stroked by.
Lily - my only pedigree cat; a Maine Coon officially called Elyskats Kalila. Unfortunately she was killed by a car when she was 3. She was a lovely cat; great temperament, but she hated my other cats, and didn't particularly want to live in the house. She used to bring me gifts of half-eaten rabbits. In return I would de-tangle her fur. We had it good.
Rowan - my heart-achey baby. He was a right softy; a peachy ginger and white, but he also fell prey to a car when he was only 10 months old.

My current cats
Daisy - tortoiseshell; timid but cuddly under the right circumstances - she's very similar to my Rosie.
Bella (Belladonna) - very fluffy ginger with white bits. She's the friendliest cat I know, she loves my dog and seems to always be desperate for a fuss when I'm in the bath. She'll sit there on the toilet seat, yowling at me as I try to read!
Dandy (Dandelion) - the youngest, and definitely the brattiest! She's replaced Lily in terms of beating up Daisy, although Bella manages to hold her own. Dandy is very vocal, and a bit hit'n'miss in terms of cuddliness; sometimes she loves a fuss, othertimes she's off like a shot.

NeverTooManyCats Tue 14-May-13 16:37:07

Hob (hobgoblin)
and newest addition is Troi (from star trek)

FunnysInLaJardin Tue 14-May-13 16:41:24

Dooin one of my cats is called Maximus although his surname is Catticus. His sister is Minimus Catticus. Luckily she is small and he is huge grin

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie Tue 14-May-13 16:42:52

Mr Chow. He's Siamese and I used to work at Mr Chow's in London a long time ago. smile

PipkinsPal Tue 14-May-13 16:45:24

I have a Barnaby and Troy (Midsomer Murders). Previously O'Malley a grey tabby but I used to call him Malley or Malleykins. When I was a child we had a Blue Point Siamese called William, I hated him and he hated me but his kennel name was Frosty Jonjans (John and Jan being his breeders).

pinkbear82 Tue 14-May-13 16:45:47

fozzie - my currently missing ginger ninja, he's been gone two weeks, and his tabby sister Pixie - also Nicknamed thunder cat for her lack of ability to be light on her feet!

I used to have Marmite too, he was all black and had a bit of a rough start in life I took him in and the name seemed fitting.

Neko basu - Japanese for cat bus, as seen in the film My Neighbour Totoro
Jiji - cat in the film Kiki's Delivery Service

My cat is called Bobby, after the one in the Railway Children, and the kitten is Brunel after the engineer.

woozlebear Tue 14-May-13 16:57:33

Bear (also known as Barsoom / Poobah / PB) and Woozle (also known as Wozkin or Woo).

My family tend to adopt cats so our names for them end up being random nicknames derived (often via multi-staged permutations) from the names they came with.

CarpeVinum Tue 14-May-13 17:13:56

I have

and my former bottle fed baby who runs my life ...Lilly.

MMollyMum2 Tue 14-May-13 17:15:40

Fred and George. grin
They are twins (only two in the litter) and are ginger toms. Suit it perfectly as both are trouble makers.
We named them before the last Harry Potter book came out though...

spanky2 Tue 14-May-13 17:54:15

Fluffy - Fluffity ,fuff fuff , fliff fluff.
Mostyn - Moss, Beast, saucy boy.

Wishiwasanheiress Tue 14-May-13 17:59:38

Cats are maincoons. I wanted matching names, so we went for Ella (Fitzgerald) and Duke (Ellington) as we like the music.

Ella liked hers. Boy cat hated it. Refused to answer. Googled bit more and found Bo Duke off dukes hazard. Cat loved it. Now known as Bo Bo bear. And he is a big brown bear cat. Suits him perfectly.

HeyMicky Tue 14-May-13 18:03:54

Schrodinger. Because I am a wanker. Ding for short.

DH has vetoed Pavlov when we get a dog

HeyMicky Tue 14-May-13 18:08:18

Ah, snap, CMOT!

My mum's friend had a cat with the name Pussldoo, because when her daughter asked what they would call it, that was her answer grin

superbagpuss Tue 14-May-13 18:12:31

every cat has three names
his official name at the vet
the name you actually call him
the name he answers to, that nobody knows

on that basis I have
willow/pillow cat/? female tabby
saffron/saffy cat/? female tortie
emo/ emo meemo pinkle panther/? black male

FrazzleRock Tue 14-May-13 18:12:38

We have a Phoebecat

GetOrfMoiLand Tue 14-May-13 18:17:06

My current cats (named by dd) are Scampi, Chips, Pickle and Lily.

Ex cats have been called Henry, Nigel (best name for a cat IMO) Julian, Jonathan and Roley.

Harry Callahan.

Previous cats include...Buddha, cally, bracken, leelou, deeley, nina and Molly.

Our 4 yr old boy id called Pilchard named by DS who was a huge Bob the Builder fan when he was little.

He was named Psycho when we got him a eight months old and it suited him then until we tamed him and there was no way I was shouting that out the back door.

mrssmooth Tue 14-May-13 18:29:51

Aggie (short for Agapi which means "darling" in Greek) - black and white coat, very timid 7 year old female. And Keith - tabby and white 8 month old male (obviously!) friendly, confident "proper" cat (as dh says). I named Aggie, with the blessing of our dds. DH named Keith ... the dds weren't so keen on the name, but they got to choose the kitten so ...

I have Gertie and Peggy :-)

Current inhabitants are Casper, Bob (or Bobbly Wobbles because he is a bit porky), Jasper (inherited) & our kitten is Muffin. She was named by my two sons who wanted to be able to shout Muff in the back garden! grin

My now departed cats were called Soxy, Rafferty, Ruskin & McLeod.

erowid Wed 15-May-13 01:05:11

We asked the cat what her name was and she replied "Maoam".

My cat came from the rescue with the name Dar, but it just find suit him. My youngest sister has Down Syndrome and a terrible heart condition , and last year when I adopted him she wasn't doing well (she's much better now though). Anyway, she's always asked to name my cats and I've always said no because she comes up with names I don't like. So this time I asked her to name my new cat.

She named him Ringo Starr. She loves the Beatles with a passion. So now I have a mammoth long-haired pure white cat named Ringo. I mostly call him Big Boy, though.

This is also the sister that insisted on dressing as Frodo Baggins in my wedding to be the "bearer of the rings". She's a very interesting person wink

Ghirly Wed 15-May-13 04:58:11

I have a Daisy (obv female) and a Jenson (male)

Daisy has just had kittens (see other thread), I'm keeping the only female and have named her Lillie.

Strangely enough, the prospective new owners of two of the boy kittens have both named them Milo
Neither person knows each other and hadn't heard the other kitten being named etc!

duchesse Wed 15-May-13 05:11:05

Ours is called Leonard. He was a very smiley kitten.

Cheshire Cat--> Leonard Cheshire --> Leonard.

Ellen85 Wed 15-May-13 15:45:12

our male cat is black with a little white spot of fur under is chin and our female cat is ginger with tiger stripes.

Mr Cat
Mr Purs-a-lot
Professor Purington
The Chubinator
His actual name is Larry grin

siezethenight Thu 16-May-13 07:52:42

Duke - because he always was very duke-like, even when little. Now he's 15 years, it really, really suits him.
The Stig - because he is very fast and can not meow!? He doesn't make a sound... Opens his mouth, makes the movement but no noise at all comes out. So, like The Stig he is fast and silent.
Mary and Martha - because we rescued them, they were dying from cat flu so we went Biblical! They got meds from vet, slept on hot water bottles for weeks and today, 2 years later they are fit as fiddles if super tiny, kitten size and never going to grow any bigger smile

Slavetothechild Thu 16-May-13 08:45:59

His imperial highness emperor ah choo !!!!!! Very entitled Siamese cat smile

Perissa Thu 16-May-13 10:37:51

We've had a Cat and a Littl'un, one big black cat and one small one.

Then we had Tinker (tortie) and Sealey (grey) who were sisters.

Now we've got Roffy (black) which is the middle of bugger off you which my Dad used to say when she was climbing his legs as a kitten.
Cilfy (tortie) who is grumpy and doesn't spend much time at home.
George (ginger & white) was aked to look after him for a day, turned out he'd been shot with an air rifle so we kept him. He's the only boy cat we've ever had.
Sybil (grey) is a slightly mental grey cat who nearly drowned in a water butt.
Tootsie (tortie) and Tabitha (fluffy tabby) are sisters.

NinaHeart Thu 16-May-13 10:47:02

My last cat was Bartholomew J Kittibiscuit, but he answered to Bart.

ZebraOwl Thu 16-May-13 17:17:51

My blond cat is called Balanchine; black cat is Nijinsky. They often get called abbreviations of those names & my Jinpuss not infrequently gets referred to as Ninja-insky because he does a good line in stealth. Balanchine is sometimes Ballonchat because he has such incredible elevation & I'm a sucker for a good polylingual pun.

fluffymindy Thu 16-May-13 17:22:33

My old cat was called Trampuss Tittypoo

EarlGreyTeabag Thu 16-May-13 17:22:39

Scipio Africatus, named by my son after his favourite Roman general (Scipio Africanus). He's Skippy in everyday use.

fluffymindy Thu 16-May-13 17:24:46

Some friends of ours have Mr. H.... aka. Mr Herring

crazynanna Thu 16-May-13 17:25:53

Poppy aka 'Pops'

TwoFourSixOhOne Thu 16-May-13 17:28:57

Daisy The Cat.

Always with the 'The Cat' bit. DHs fault. And I always ask him if it's to distinguish her from Daisy The Velociraptor and Daisy the Albatross. That we don't have.

BriansBrain Thu 16-May-13 17:30:25

Princess Phoebe

pearlgirl Thu 16-May-13 19:16:16

I was banned from calling our kittens Psycho and Headcase so they are now called Luna and Molly.

BikeRunSki Thu 16-May-13 19:21:11

Eddy, after the great Eddy Mercx (Belgian cyclist ). We are both cyclists and we weren't going to have children.

Zeusrules Thu 16-May-13 19:29:59

Our black cat is Zeus and yes he is very much in charge! Also very like Toothless but he pre-dates the film

basildonbond Thu 16-May-13 20:19:50

Our tabby was called Minnie at Battersea but when we got her we needed to rename her as our lovely old black ball of fluff who'd died a couple of months before had also been called Minnie and the dc thought it was too confusing. She ended up as Daisy because ds1 was obsessed with Thomas the tank engine at the time and wanted to call her Thomas or James ... We explained that it might be a bit odd calling a girl cat Thomas so be compromised on one of the girl engines ...

Our soon-to-be arriving arabian mau is Shuri, short for Shuriken - ds2's ninja-obsessed choice

Karbea Thu 16-May-13 20:41:45

We've got...

Crumble we call her crumpy
Augusta we call her gussie
Scooby we call him skippy or skippy do, boy blue, fish face.
Willow we call her mitten (kitten mitten), monkey face/chops, willow pops or just pops.

PipkinsPal Fri 17-May-13 14:24:34

Karbea - I love the name Crumble. In fact you've given me a naughty idea. My boyfriend loves apple and rhubarb crumble but he hates rats. I love rats and think I will name my next rat Crumble grin

Karbea Fri 17-May-13 14:27:04

Arrr crumble is lovely, she's crumble colour hence the name smile

Semi officially, Suki.

On a good day, Sukicat, sooks, pookie etc.

Most days, Suki -NO!

On a bad day, dh favours, "you repellent quadruped......"

EatenByZombies Tue 21-May-13 00:41:39

My old cat was called Figaro. I named him after the cat in Pinocchio when I was little because he was black and white.
My current cats are called Sally (tabby) and Lyla (Norwegian forest cat). They're named
after the only two female names that appear in Oasis songs (Oasis are my favourite band grin ).
My childhood cat teddy/toy is called Sassy, named after the cat from Homeward Bound because it was one of my favourite childhood films smile

dementedma Sat 25-May-13 20:29:55

Current rescue cat came with his name -Ollie. Previously we have had
Posy - he was a boy!
and my sister's cat - Fibbonnaci

Sunnywithshowers Sat 25-May-13 20:54:51

I've currently only got one cat. He's Oscar, named after a much-loved cat that went missing when I was a teen. His unofficial names include shitbag, smelly, you bastard!, boocat, the boo, his majesty, schpuffcat, my little baby...

Ex-cats - I lost a wonderful ginger tom called Jasper, and a beautiful dove grey tuxedo called Stella - Italian for star. She had tortie kittens I called Marmite and Pickle - Marmite was mostly dark brown and Pickle was a little sod. Their new mum gave them new names smile

gobbin Sun 26-May-13 18:44:18

Our cats are called Ash (greyish with orange undertone), who is mother to Wicky (a torbie) and Bean (who is orange, like a baked bean).

Ash is a lazy fireside cat, Wicky is a wicked cuddly spiky attitudinal teenager and Bean is just an idiot!

gobbin Sun 26-May-13 18:48:23

Over the years we've had:

Fungus (inspired by the toadstools growing in the footwell of my husbands old Chevette)
Suggs (part of Fungus backwards)
Aggie (ugly Aggie, runt of the litter who lasted years)
Griffin (after the local pub)
Cobweb (black cat)

lambbone Sun 26-May-13 18:58:47

We had Bleep and Booster, but only Bleep is still with us. We also have a beautiful black Ninja.

Ange1972 Sun 26-May-13 19:01:35

Male cat is Freddy and female cat is Ole (pronounced Olly but ex boyfriend was huge Man U fan when Ole Gunnar Solshar was there!).

Puddlelane Sun 26-May-13 19:09:38

I really want a cat! I miss my old boy hugely!
Though 3 small DC, sigh it wouldn't work sad

Bosworth- Bozzie- Mr. bozanova-chubby chops.
He was a fat silver tabby and such a grateful sweetheart. Adapted to everything and anything.
He was happy t

Puddlelane Sun 26-May-13 19:12:25

...to sit next you or on you. Would ask (tap you) if he wanted to go out or to get in your bed.
Miss his little face. 18 years old.

When I was a teen we got a kitten and he tried so hard to be regal I guess, so we called him Darling from Black Adder. It still makes me and my brother laugh that my dear old dad has to call 'Darling!' in the garden!

chickensaladagain Sun 26-May-13 19:18:55

My 2 are called Dave & Pete

No idea why but seems to suit them

sjuperyoni Sun 26-May-13 19:29:45

Dp brought home 2 rescue kittens this week who we named 'the red one' and 'the black one' because of their collars grin after 2/3 days i chose oscar and milo for them just based on their looks but oscar was very nearly an arthur.

Milo has now moved in to next doors house - he got out the backs, went in their house and wouldn't come back out! Luckily our ndn are lovely and are happy to keep him if he deigns to live there smile

sjuperyoni Sun 26-May-13 19:31:43

They are very very fluffy black/brown toned babies smile

Jelly he is a pure grey boy & really suits his name though I haven't a clue why I called him that

RaRa A long haired Maine coon cross boy also all grey with bright yellow eyes and the longest tail I have ever seen (his nickname is skunk because he constantly has his tail stuck in the air & its really bushy)

Rosie was a very timid cat up until recently , she is also Maine coon cross so long haired and she is grey and white

RJ (short for Rosie Junior) she has the exact same colourings as her mum but on the opposite side & also grey & white

JJ (short for Jelly Junior) as he is also short haired & grey {nicknamed Jaws as he likes to sneak round with his tail pointed in the air) grin

Ollie is pure grey but much lighter than the rest and very podgy

I haven't a clue why all my cats are grey as it wasn't a choice grin

DoingStuffForHarriet Sun 26-May-13 23:03:12

Our old girl is called Harriet. It was her name when we got her and suits her perfectly. She is a very pretty dainty little tabby. 17 years old but still acts like a kitten.

CatOfTheDay Mon 27-May-13 02:38:30

My 13 year old kitten is Motley - she's a tortie so is sort of mottled! It suited her the minute I saw her.

2nd eldest is 7 year old Sparkle. He was a girl named Bacardi when I got him. I changed "her" name - then there were a couple of developments! He remained Sparkle though as it suits him.

3rd cat is Rosie - after the AC/DC song, and it suits her! She's a grey tortie.

4th cat is Ruby. I had her for 2 days before coming up with the right name and tried her out with a few beforehand (she was nearly Jemima but it just didn't feel right!). Then the Kaiser Chiefs song came on the TV and as I started singing along with the chorus she looked at me as if I was calling her.

DP had two cats before we met - he called them Nikki and Blackie. He says after Nikki Sixx and Blackie Lawless - but Blackie just happens to be black so the poor cat is lumbered with a boring common cat name (but is a lovely cat and carries it off well!)

Our kitten is called CC. I rescued her from the car park at work and it was short for Car park Cat. We have lengthened it to Cecilia as her full name!

They all have posh showcat names too - Hurricane Motley, Sparkle Star Krusher, Rosie Storm, Ruby Delilah, Nikki Pernod Gremlin, Cecilia Tiffany (after the 80's singer Tiffany, as she sounds like her when you pick her up!) and, ummm..........Blackie.

hootiemcboob Mon 27-May-13 02:50:10

We have Voodoo, a 12 yo black tom, named by dh who was drinking Dixie Blackened Voodoo Lager when inspiration struck, Cupcake, who was named by DD, who was 7 at the time, and Scout the kitten who is orange and grey and a fecking nuisance at times but is so cute I cant stay mad at her!

kickassangel Mon 27-May-13 03:19:23

Ours are called

Tobias Alloysius Marmalade III

Oreo Fluffer McKitty II

Elenkalubleton Tue 28-May-13 10:36:45

My 3 year old burmese is called Tarquin Valentino because he was born on valentines day we call him tark

My gorgeous black and white kitten is called Muffin smile

peeriebear Tue 28-May-13 11:44:27

My cat is called Moomin and she is an adorable wide-eyed, dove grey and white, supersoft furred creature.
She is a stone cold sociopath however; she will raid birds nests, catch butterflies out of the air, launch herself at anybody who moves and will attack the baby with impunity if not vigorously supervised. She is more surly lodger than pet.
I picked her because she had 'spirit', ie on a boiling hot day her littermates were all curled up sleeping and she was repeatedly hurling herself at her poor mum's head. Sigh.

We have mimi. She was called meko at the rescue centre but it didn't suit her and her sign at the centre said she was attention seeking so mimi suited her well
She's also called mimi-bell, mimi-cat , mimi-bonce and princess mimi of (the street we live in)

My favourite cat name was for the stray who adopted our neighbours when we were little. He was called uglymush!

Hamnvik Tue 28-May-13 16:48:55

We have Tiberius, a giant main coon, also known as Grumpy or Monster face and Isabel also known as Izzywhizzy or cuddle monster.

SaltaKatten Tue 28-May-13 19:12:18

My old cats who sadly passed away many years ago had fancy names like Hemingway and Pythia. Today a lovely kitten joined our family and was named Blingo by the moshi monster loving four year old. I despair =)

XBenedict Tue 28-May-13 19:13:26

I have a little black cat called Jazz, suits her!

FiftyshadesofYoni Tue 28-May-13 19:19:56

Bob, but she's a girl! My youngest picked the name and wouldn't have anything else so that was the end of that.

I have Brucie smile As a kitten he had an amazing swagger, very Bruce Willis! As we got to know him he's just too cute and goofy to be Bruce, hence Brucie.

SnookyPooky Sun 16-Jun-13 16:08:43

We have 12 cats (don't ask, we did not mean to have so many:

We also have at least the same number that are what we call refugees that don't live in, some have been named:

Big Ginger
Lucky Black (he went to town under my husband's minibus hence the name, used 8 lives that day)

We live in Cyprus, a lot of unwanted cats here.

GoatsHaveStrangeEyes Sun 16-Jun-13 16:13:22

Ours is Oscar, or Ozzy as he usually gets called. He's black and white and very fluffy.

I wanted to name him Toby but it didn't suit him.

itsnothingoriginal Sun 16-Jun-13 16:30:07

Our gorgeous new tortie kitten is Lily - know it's a common name for female cats but as soon as DH suggested it we knew it was the right name for her!

blackbirdatglanmore Sun 16-Jun-13 21:47:28

Heathcliff and Cathy grin

The ginger one is called Beans. I did not name him!

Woofers Sun 16-Jun-13 22:18:20

We have three cats. Two brothers who started life as nancy and Tilly. We got them off a crazy lady who told us they were girls and we didn't think to check for ourselves! So at the vets Tilly was a Tom, therefore tommy and nancy was renamed bobby. Canon and ball. Tommy is currently on his spring walkabout. . . . . I'm optimistic he may return. . . . We live in the country and we have asked neighbours to keeps eyes out on the roads and in sheds for him. . .

And we also have another black and white cat called Charlie. He was blackie - named by an elderly couple who had dementia and since he was black, they could remember that name. Very vocal and is the house bully. The dogs are terrified of him. Recently got bitten by a fox but he was good as gold letting us look after his war wounds.

We call them Tom cat, bob cat and Charles charleston.

I love this thread! So many great cat names. I knew there was acrufts equivalent for showing cats but I didn't realise it was such a glam affair.

sashh Mon 17-Jun-13 04:21:31

She started out as 'mystery cat' or 'spot' as she was a stray.

She is now Marquesa Gatto Mysteriosa, hunter of legs.

But day to day she is Misty.

kittensarecute Thu 20-Jun-13 18:21:47

Mischief, but we call her Missy most of the time. We did have another cat called Simba but he's sadly gone now.

tabbycat15 Sat 22-Jun-13 12:00:41

I have Sophie, she was called that when we got her. I had Dotty for 14 years she died in Nov. she was black &white & had Dots on her paws. She was called by her fosterer. We were going to change her to Jessie but she suited Dotty.

JakeBullet Sat 22-Jun-13 12:09:10

I have had:

Grace (the most graceless cat you could ever meet) who I adopted and just kept her name.

Se sadly died aged 16.

Then I had two kittens called Spike and Drusilla (am a Buffy lover). Sadly I lost Spike when he was seven months as he was hit by a car. I still have Drusilla but these days she is more commonly called Droosie the Floosie. And last year I adopted a cat who was left behind by a neighbour when they moved out (they literally abandoned her) and she is known as Little Whiskers because of her small stature (stunted growth as she had kittens when aged six months). She is three according to neighbours son who returned to pick up mail, they didn't want her back because "we've got another cat now" hmm.

my boy is called Vinnie.
previously weve had tahlula, mojo, dillon, buddy and holly.
over the past thirty years of course!

No idea where he has been!!

annoyednow Mon 24-Jun-13 20:47:07

We have a tabby called Toffee. When he arrived in my garden and made it into the house (and would not leave), I thought he was a she and called him 'Princess'.

Want to call him Mungo but too late now.

annoyednow Mon 24-Jun-13 20:53:19

My mother used to call them as she saw them. So, we had a Ginger, Snowy, Blackie, Tabby, Smokey, Fluffy and Bunny (Manx). Not all at the same time.

LoriGrimes Mon 24-Jun-13 20:55:14

I have a Kevin. Did have an Alan but he moved in with the lady up the road.

Catmint Mon 24-Jun-13 20:56:03

Onion, who sadly died in January.

We are getting another cat in Sept/ oct, the name is already hotly debated!

So this thread is fab.

I have two.
Big Kitten is called Eponine Spa, she's a year old
Little kitten is just ten weeks, she's called Jemima Silverstone.
They're also known as silky and fuzzy, and bloody annoying and really bloody annoying!
I want more cats grin

Burmillababe Fri 28-Jun-13 23:13:22

Mine are Robson (he was given to me at four years old with that name by someone who couldnt cope with him, apparently he had a brother called Jerome!), Harry and Theo (both girls, bit of confusion over gender when they were tiny!!). We also have a Finn, Freddie and Hugo in the family

FredaFanakapan Fri 13-Sep-13 20:02:47

Chloe - sweet little black moggy, sadly didn't survive the anaesthetic when being spayed sad
After that we got two kittens, on the advice of a cat loving friend. We named the tabby Candy - known affectionately as Candycat. She was small but feisty.
The other was grey with white paws, white 'bib' and a black nose which reminded us of a teddy bear, so we named her Teddy. Her nn was Teddybaws. She was sweet and gorgeous and a bit clumsy. She made a little chirruping noise when you stroked her or as a greeting.
Last cat we had was a small brown Burmese who was a rescue cat already named Hobbes.
