Meet Edgar

I just felt like sharing. Admittedly he's not the prettiest of cats.

I picked him up in the street just round the corner from me two days ago. He was unneutered, starving, filthy, flea-ridden and with a mouth full of broken and rotten teeth.

He hasn't stopped eating since I took him in, despite obviously being in pain from his mouth, and has already put on a lot of weight. He is even quite a bit cleaner, again despite the problem with his mouth.

The plan is to get him neutered and to have a dental as soon as possible. Then, as I expect no one will be falling over themselves to adopt him, he will end up joining my gang. What's one more after all?

(the dirty pink stain on the sheet in the first photo was as a result of me flea combing him with a damp comb. The water in the bowl turned a very dirty, dark red).

I imagine he became stray, as most unneutered males do, because he left home to chase a female and couldn't find his way home. That was obviously a long time ago though.

Gosh, the photos brought tears to my eyes, poor Edgar. I think you're amazing looking afte him.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen Sun 25-Sep-16 15:24:09

Oh he's lovely and I disagree about not being pretty!

Toddlerteaplease Sun 25-Sep-16 16:35:59

Hell be a beautiful cat with a bath and some TLC!

CatsGoPurrrr Sun 25-Sep-16 16:42:20

Thank you for looking after him smile I'm sure he will be a loving addition to your cat family!

TopKittyKat Sun 25-Sep-16 16:47:28

I think he's gorgeous. Love the name too...

Also got tears sad

You're fantastic flowersflowersflowers and he has a lovely face.

cozietoesie Sun 25-Sep-16 16:56:54

Poor lad. If that's him attempting to wash himself, though, he's still trying.

I'm looking forward to the 'after' photos. He's going to be great. smile

Mycatsabastard Sun 25-Sep-16 16:57:42

oh goodness! Poor Edgar! He's gorgeous though, he just needs a bit of a clean up and some TLC.

Thanks for taking him in. He will love you forever for giving him a nice warm home and some vet treatment.

Hope it doesn't cost too much to get him sorted, his poor mouth must be so sore sad

I bet he's so grateful for having somewhere warm and safe to sleep. And an endless supply of food! And no more fleas.

thecatneuterer Sun 25-Sep-16 17:02:12

Cozie. Yes he hasn't really stopped washing himself and eating. The second two photos are a day later than the first one (ie yesterday and today). He is already much heavier and much cleaner in the second ones. I'm surprised about the washing as normally when cats have painful mouths they give up on it.

Mycatsabastard - I'm with a cat rescue which has it's own vets (www.celiahammond.org) so luckily I don't have to pay for treatment.

cozietoesie Sun 25-Sep-16 17:02:56

I think TCN receives help with vet costs - as a volunteer with CHAT.

Does Edgar make 23, TCN, or have you lost count? grin

cozietoesie Sun 25-Sep-16 17:03:30

X post.

thecatneuterer Sun 25-Sep-16 17:04:23

I've no idea Cozie. I have definitely lost count. I also have an extra two kittens in my living room and an extra three feral kittens in my spare room.

Oops, posted twice.

yeOldeTrout Sun 25-Sep-16 17:11:07

Gosh that's a manky cat. He'll be very handsome when he's well again, though. I think you might be wrong about his chances of new home when he's all spiffed up. Those goolies can't be removed too soon!

allsfairinlove Sun 25-Sep-16 17:11:54

Thank goodness for people like you TCN, what a heartwarming stroke of luck for him after suffering such neglect. He looks so vulnerable and lovable, makes my heart ache just looking at him. Can't wait to hear about his progress flowers

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen Sun 25-Sep-16 17:14:14

What makes him manky? He looks lovely to me <clueless>blush

chemenger Sun 25-Sep-16 17:15:02

He's beautiful, and he's going to get more beautiful every day thanks to you.

Mycatsabastard Sun 25-Sep-16 17:30:14

He really is utterly lovely. If a bit tatty. But he will be gorgeous once he's well and feeling good.

We have four rescues. We got all of them as adult cats. They are all wonderful animals who give so much back in terms of affection (and amusement - especially girl cat 2 who is utterly daft!!).

Keep us updated on his progress. I love threads like this.

Fluffycloudland77 Sun 25-Sep-16 17:38:06

Good god what a sorry state he's in. How soon can they fix his teeth?.

thecatneuterer Sun 25-Sep-16 17:42:47

Fluffy - I'm not sure. We have a backlog of all operations, especially dentals, as the clinic has had to be closed for two weeks due to an outbreak of calici virus. Celia is planning to get a locum vet to come in for a weekend to help with the dentals backlog, but I'm not sure how soon we will manage it.

yeOldeTrout Sun 25-Sep-16 17:43:58

Very filthy Dame. At least I don't think off-grey with brown smudges & dusty black are his actual fur colours. He looks like he might have some recent injuries around the face, too (typical of intact toms). Good ears, though. A lot of feral toms have very shredded ears.... half an eye gone, face full of scars, whisker shortage, half a tail, bare patches or maybe actually mangy sad.
It's cruel not to get toms 'done'.

yeOldeTrout Sun 25-Sep-16 17:45:33

@Catneuterer: do you think he has a treatable mouth problem (could stop the teeth going) or simply bad neck lesions?
