The litter tray

So we pick up our 2 new kittens on Friday after losing our kitten at 10 months when she was hit by a car in March and losing our other 10 month old kitten a year past May Sad we decided to get a house cat, I thought 2 would be better than one to keep each other company, it's not going to be much different than having one kitten, is it?

Breeder has said they are 2 lovely affectionate girls but do like their crazy time early in the morning, my mum seems to think it is going to be double the trouble Hmm. We have had 13 weeks to prepare but now the time is nearly here I'm starting to wonder what we have let ourselves in for getting 2 kittens, I know it will be okay in the long run once they get older and calm down but what can we expect until then?

I can't advise about kittens, as my two were adults when we got them, but having 2 cats is great. They play with eachother and keep eachother company, it's really fun seeing them interact, and it's no more work than having 1.

I never had cats before DH brought home two orphaned kittens one day fro work.

I am so glad he brought them both. They keep themselves company and entertain themselves. It's so sweet to see them cuddling up together.

I don't really know anything else, but I can't see how just the one would be much different to having two. Just the extra litter tray and more food I guess.

Mine are 10 months now and still have their mad moments (shredding toilet roll in the bath and rolling round then trailing it round the house was the highlight this morning) but still adore each other. It has also worked quite well because one prefers DH and the other prefers me.

In some ways 2 is easier than one. They work off their energy with each other.

Thanks for the responses, think I was just worrying a bit as to how crazy they would be together, our two dogs are not going to know what has hit them Grin.

I think we are prepared, names have been picked too after many disagreements Smile. We just have a dreaded 3 hour car journey to get them home, hopefully it isn't too stressful for them.

Ive mostly had kittens in pairs and I find it easier to be honest. The two I have at the moment we're great as kittens. They did used to go mad at times but when they were little it just looked and sounded 'cute '. Now they are both largish ginger furry hooligans and it sounds like a herd of elephants when I they are charging around after each other at 5amConfused They also play too hard sometimes and I had one of them back for the second time to the vets last night because his brother has bitten his tail and he has 3 nasty infected puncture wounds.

Having said all that, I could never separate them as they follow each other constantly and can often be found snuggled up together.

Oh God, the toilet roll fixation Jamie. When my Devon was a kitten, I'd regularly wake up with the house festooned with loo rolls. Like that thing they do in American teen movies to teachers they don't like.

Your kittens are beautiful Rozzi - British Blues? I bet you've been counting down the days. Pop a puppy pad (a brilliant idea from WWK) into the carrier(s) and a couple of spares to hand, and a comfy blanket/towel. And if you cover the carrier, (ensuring air can still circulate) they're more likely to sleep. I didn't know this, and my kitten yelled at the top of his voice all the way home, and that was only an hour.

So sorry about your other 2 cats. Flowers

They really are gorgeous!
We've always had them in pairs too. Of course you have double costs for most things (Vet bills, food etc) but a lot isn't quite double.
And I found two easier than one as others said, as they keep each other amused. They get bored far less easily, and it's lovely to watch them playing and interacting with each other.

Ice your cats are gorgeous. Well we picked them up on Friday, they were very content on the journey up, purring away, got home and they were straight out the carrier, it's like they have been here for weeks. You just need to make eye contact and they start purring. I thought it would take a few days for them to settle, the other 2 kittens we had took a few days to come out their shell but these two are very confident, I'm waiting for the madness to begin with each day they are getting more wild Grin

We have called them Skye and Piper. Yes they are British Blues Rubbish

They are gorgeous.

Don't be nervous about having two. It really isn't twice the work but it's certainly twice the fun.

They are totally adorable, I love British Blues kitties. My friend had 4 British Blues of which 3 were females and she let them all have a litter each before they were spayed. I often used to go round and have four or five kittens climbing all over me. Shear heaven! They will get confidence from each other which is probably why they have settled so quickly. You will have hours of fun with these two I am sure. Enjoy ...
