The litter tray

Girlkitten is dead

Run over by speeding car right outside our house this morning. The neighbours saw it happen and rescued her body. We are on holiday - all our lovely friends have rallied around and taken her to the vet. They have shut Boykitten in the house with a litter tray and keeping him in until we get home.

I am devastated - she was MY cat. She was a feisty wee thing and the rest of the family were a bit wary of her but she and I bonded. I work at home and every day at 110:00 and 15:00 she'd leap up on the desk with a chirrup, roll herself into the crook of my left arm, lie on her back and put my chin until I scritched her. She'd go in absolute conniptions and drool all over my elbow.

SHe was only 8 months old. I keep ducking into corners to weep.

I am dreading going home to sort out what to do with the body. The vet says we can view but I don't think I can.

Thankyou.

I just need a place to vent - I am trying to keep it together for the DCs whereas I just want to HOWL.

It'll be worse when we get home and she isn't there.

Poor Boykitten must be wondering what is going on. He's suddenly locked in, no us, no sister. Mind you, he's been fed at least 5 times to day, if I can piece all of the texts together so maybe he's entirely happy.

I'm so, so sorry. I lost my feisty little girl cat at the end of last year - to a dog, not a car, but the same awful, violent shock - and it is desperate. Let yourself cry; you've had an awful shock. Sounds like your lad is being well looked after until you can get home to him.

that is so sad Sad to read; poor little kitten. I really feel for you as you must feel helpless being on holiday and away from it all

That terrible, I am so sorry she's gone. I don't think I could view either.

I'm so sorry, we lost our boycat three years ago to a fox, and his sister did miss him for a while, they were 12 and had been together a long time. She got over it with lots of extra hugs.

I hope you will be OK, I managed not to cry in front of the kids but it is hard. Especially when they were 'your' cat - or should I say when you were their human.

Boykit is being cosseted to within an inch of his life. He is a big soppy poppet and a bit thick so it may not faze him for long.

That's why I am so gutted about Girlkit - everyone LOVES Boykit. He is easy to love. But Girlkit was MINE.

So sorry, Legs Flowers

It's heartbreaking, isn't it? I lost my boy at 10 months to a car, and he's not the first family cat to go that way, regardless of how remote an area I lived.

Give BoyKitten a big hug when you get home, and know that although her life was short, you ensured she was happy and loved. That is no small thing.

yy - I was a very-well trained human. Boykit is going to have to alternate laps between me and DH now otherwise I shall be lonely of an evening.

God, I am teary AGAIN. I either need to stop drinking gin or drink more.

SHe had an ace life - short but well cared-for. The DCs have designed a memorial plaque - we are on hols in an area known for slate so we are going to buy a nice slate tile, enamel her details on it and hang it on the shed roof where she liked to sit.

I'm so sorry, poor baby Sad She sounds absolutely gorgeous, and such a special relationship between you and her.

She was absolutely gorgeous. A silvery tabby turning blotchy tortoiseshell towards the back. Her tummy was fluffy and fawn with black Bengal spots. She was a neat, tidy, small cat and she liked to wrap herself round my neck, rest her chin in my ear and purr so loudly it tickled unbearably.

DH has just brought me wine - I am drinking to forget.

I'm so sorry.

For some people viewing her little body may help, others not. It helped me, in different circumstances.

Not fucking fair, is it? Flowers xx

No, its not fair.

RIP - little chimney-climbing, back-lying, droolingly loving Girlkit.

Poor you. I lost the my boycat in exactly the same way (except we weren't away - I found him) and I can absolutely relate. He was my baby, and came to "help" me in my home office all the time. I would do conference calls with this big ginger scarf round my neck Grin.

Get the DC to bed and then go ahead and howl. I did, on and off, for weeks.
