The litter tray

I seem to have acquired a cat

I didn't like cats but then I turned into some kind of cat whisperer with my neighbours cats trailing after me and feral cats jumping in my lap
I have gone to the dark side and reserved a cat from cats protection Hmm
He's black and has FIV as well as being a flu carrier so he will be indoor cat. Obviously no sane person was going to take him. So yes, I'm off to buy half of the pet shop

Oh that's lovely. You do seem to have some kind of cat magnet in you. You may as well accept it.

Wow, you moved pretty fast from "I didn't like cats" to ... And I reserved one Grin

Once he's come out from under the bed/bookshelf/dresser, would be lovely to see a pic of him. Congratulations!

He's not coming until the end of the month because it's after pay day and I need money for the fee for him!
Hoping to swap him to raw food to help his immune system and keep him well
He's about 5, was a stray for years and has been with them about 3-4 months

Oh and here you go
This is the view from my window every morning HmmConfused of my neighbours cats. And the other pic is soon to be my cat (ok that sounds weird saying mine)

Grin They got you good!

Don't buy loads of fancy stuff which looks good, because you can guarantee that no sane cat will actually go anywhere near it. Clean washing, laptop keyboards, the exact place you sit on the sofa and important paperwork are all much more preferable sleeping places than any shop bought pet bed.

You will want a decent litter tray, a nice deep one to prevent it being scattered everywhere.

Scratching posts are better if they are actually different from other things in your house and aren't covered in carpet. Apparently carpet is confusing and makes them scratch the actual carpet too.

Give him somewhere up high - he'll probably find a way up your normal furniture anyway - and somewhere dark - again they are resourceful. Buy some catnip spray because it's hilarious and a couple of things which will move (even just rolling) by themselves or that you can move and he'll be grand :)

My place has lots of hiding places and climbing things as well as loads of fleeces, blankets and chairs so we should be all good there!
Litter tray, litter, food/water bowl and scratching post are my essentials I think. I have a feather cat toy (don't ask) but he will be laden down with toys soon enough!

Sodding cats Hmm
Seriously, point a feral cat in my direction and its curled up on my lap purring within minutes. Or clambering on my shoulder

It might be the light actually Blush Black cats do normally have tabby underneath, though, you can see the shadow of the stripes when they lie in strong sunlight :)

Great boy. Smile

He still looks just a little wary but he's hardly been with you any time at all. On your lap after 15 minutes is excellent!

Do you know much about his history?

The old strays and homeless ones are always the best ones. He reminds me of one I had many years ago called Pan. He had the same expression Smile

He lived with me for seven weeks, till he died, but they were weeks filled with love and wonder. I didn't know until then what it was to fall in love with an animal.

I've never had another cat that I really actually loved.

Your new fella sounds very happy already Smile

He was a stray before he came to the rescue which is as much as I know
He's eaten, shoved himself around my neck and kneaded me to death and had a sleep on my chest Smile

It's actually made me a bit teary. It's ridiculous. You would think I'd be hardened to this sort of thing after all these years.
